Well, today marks the end of a very beautiful chapter—one that I will never forget.
Before I first started working with this lovely lady, I was at a point where I was struggling with wanting to continue my role as a support worker. We can be treated horribly at times, and that’s unfortunately a fact. I wasn’t sure if I could keep going.
When I first started with her, we both had our worries. Would she like me? Would I be too much? Too young? No one could predict what was about to happen.
Over the last 15 months , we’ve really gotten to know each other—me learning how not to mess up, and her learning to put up with my annoying self 🤣. The poor lady had quite the mission ahead of her dealing with my terrible jokes! Just look at the photo attached and you will see how hard it’s been for her 😂
But some how, 2 people of different generations, different walks of life and the most unlikely duo managed to be a great team in the end.
We often talk about how support workers can have a positive impact on our clients. But the truth is, sometimes our beautiful clients come into our lives for a reason, leaving an impact on us that they might never realize—while we’re supporting them.
While this is a very emotional moment for me to move on from being her support worker, I am incredibly grateful for this opportunity and for the time I’ve shared with her. I know that the lessons, laughs, and memories will stay with me forever—and I can only hope that she carries a little piece of our journey with her as well.
I will miss her, but I know she has many great support workers who will care for her now( and make sure she don’t slack off on the physio 😉).
Thank you for choosing me to stay and not hating me 😂 and thank you for having faith in me, because sometimes we need it too.
