Can you spot the difference when it comes to checking your skin? 🔍

More than 90% of melanoma cases can be treated if found early. It's important to check moles and spots on your skin regularly using the ABCDEFG method.

This is what you need to look for:
🔸 Asymmetry - are the halves of each spot different?
🔸 Border - are the edges uneven?
🔸 Colour - are there different shades and colour patches?
🔸 Diameter - is the spot over 6mm wide at any point?
🔸 Elevated - is it raised?
🔸 Firm - is it firm to touch?
🔸 Growing - is it growing quickly?

Remember to check your whole body, including your scalp, ears, toes, soles of your feet, fingers and nails. 👂

If you see any changes to moles or freckles, or develop new ones, see your healthcare provider immediately.

Cryptosporidiosis — you may have heard about this recently.

Cases are on the rise around Australia.

But what is it? And should we be worried about it?

Cryptosporidiosis is a gastrointestinal disease caused by the parasite cryptosporidium. It can infect the bowel and is a common cause of acute watery diarrhoea in young children. 💩

A common way of getting infected is by drinking or accidentally swallowing water that's contaminated. This can happen in places like swimming pools, water parks and other recreational water facilities where the water may be contaminated with faecal (poo) matter. 🏊

Besides watery diarrhoea, other symptoms can include:
🤢 nausea and/or vomiting
😰 stomach pain
❌ no appetite
😵‍💫headaches
🤒 fever.

There is no specific treatment for cryptosporidiosis, however it is important to stay hydrated. Symptoms will usually get better in a few days or weeks.

To prevent the spread, infected people should avoid swimming in public places for at least 14 days after diarrhoea has stopped.

See your healthcare provider if any symptoms are worsening or not improving. A doctor should always see babies and young children with symptoms — they are more at risk of severe dehydration.

Fibroids are very common, noncancerous growths found in the muscle wall of the uterus.

They may also grow in the fallopian tubes, cervix, or tissues near the uterus.

Fibroids can vary in size from a pea to a rockmelon or bigger! 🍈

Most people with fibroids don't experience symptoms. But when fibroids do cause symptoms, the most common ones include:
👉 heavy or long periods
👉 painful periods
👉 bleeding between periods
👉 backache
👉 pain or pressure in the pelvic area
👉 painful s*x
👉 weeing a lot
👉 constipation
👉 swelling in your lower abdomen.

Fibroids can also affect fertility, depending on their size and location.

Most fibroids don’t require treatment unless you're planning to get pregnant, or the symptoms stop you from doing things you normally do.

Treatments include hormonal medications or a range of surgical options. If you notice any of the above symptoms, be sure to speak to your doctor.⁣
