It’s Friday, already and I hope you are taking some time over the weekend for yourself.
Menopause increases our stress hormones which in turn increases not only our waistlines but it also can increase the likelihood of anxiety and insomnia.
We all lead busy lives so incorporating some self care and downtime doing something you enjoy can make a big difference in how we feel.

It’s Easter Monday, how did you go yesterday?
Did you eat your body weight in chocolate and hot cross buns?
Did you laugh and spend time with people you care about?
Well I did a bit of the first and a lot of the second.
At 1am my body told me I should have done less of the first and woke me up with reflux 🤷‍♀️
Listening to your body and staying aware of how foods make you feel makes breaking habits and changing behaviours much easier because let’s face who wants to wake everyday with reflux?
Perimenopause and menopause not only changes our hormones it has an effect on so many aspects of our lives.
Digestion
Sleep
Cravings
Mood
It even has an effect on the way we process alcohol ☹️ so the next time temptation is in front of you or calling your name from the fridge remember how your body felt the last time you ate or drank that food.
I didn’t want to get up and move my body this morning but I did and I feel so much better both physically and mentally after some exercise.
I hope you all have a great day 🐰

𝗚𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗙𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗮𝘆 / 𝗘𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿

This weekend isn’t about being “perfect"
It’s about being present.

Enjoy a hot cross bun.
Have some chocolate.
Sit down, slow down, and actually taste your food for once.

Because one weekend won’t undo your progress…
But guilt, all-or-nothing thinking, and “I’ll start again Monday” just might.

Balance always wins.

👉 Eat mindfully-don't inhale your food.
👉 Don’t go into a sugar free-for-all
👉 And don’t punish yourself after

You’re allowed to enjoy your life and look after your health.

That’s the goal-not restriction, not extremes.

Happy Easter 🐣💛

More realities of menopause!!
Cystic acne at 53!
This is the result of a little too much testosterone cream application.
According to my hormone GP I’m very sensitive to testosterone and it can cause acne in the form of very painful cysts under the skin anywhere along my jawline which is where we see hormonal acne in women.
I apply testosterone 2-3 times a week and I think my last dose I was a bit heavy handed in my application and now I’m paying for it 🤦🏼‍♀️
But these are the real life things we deal with in menopause and it’s symptoms of which there are dozens 😞
So even as an experienced beauty therapist with 25yrs under my belt and all my knowledge on skin and how to treat skin problems there is no quick fix we just have to take care of our skin and wait for things like this to resolve on their own.

Bloating in perimenopause and menopause?
Very real. Very annoying. And not just “you ate too much.”

Here’s what’s actually going on.
1. Hormones are all over the place
Oestrogen rises and falls unpredictably in perimenopause, then drops in menopause.
👉 This messes with fluid balance → hello puffiness
👉 It also slows digestion → food sits longer → more gas

2. Progesterone drops (your calming hormone)
Progesterone helps keep things moving.
When it drops:
👉 Slower gut transit
👉 Constipation
👉 That heavy, full, “food baby” feeling

3. Gut becomes more sensitive
Hormonal shifts can change your gut bacteria and how you tolerate foods.
👉 Foods you used to handle fine now cause bloating
👉 Common culprits: bread, pasta, sugar, processed foods

4. Insulin resistance creeps in
Very common in this stage.
👉 More carbs = more water retention + inflammation
👉 Which feels like bloating (and looks like it too)

5. Stress is higher than you think
Cortisol affects digestion big time.
👉 You don’t break food down as well
👉 More gas, more discomfort

What actually helps:
✔️ Eat simpler meals (less mixing everything together)
✔️ Pull back on sugar + refined carbs
✔️ Prioritise protein and whole foods
✔️ Slow down when you eat (yes, it matters)
✔️ Manage stress-your gut feels it

Bottom line:
It’s not just “belly fat” or “your overeating.”
Your body is changing how it processes food.
Work with it, not against it—and the bloating settles a lot faster.

About Megan

I am a Nutritional Therapist with a difference I believe that Your Health IS Your Choice.

My main focus is in weight loss and balancing your hormones to support you in maintaining your healthy lifestyle.

There are a lot of side benefits to a healthy weight, like blood sugar control, higher energy levels and increased vitality, clear and younger looking skin-sounds good doesn’t it?

I encourage you to ditch the “diet” mentality, focus on real food that is nutrient dense, tasty, easy to prepare that doesn’t involve one food for you and something different for the rest of the family.
