Raise the Bar Psychology

Raise the Bar Psychology Neurodevelopmental and educational assessments, counselling and support for children, adolescents and adults.

We are a private educational and developmental psychology clinic with extensive experience and expertise in educational and neurodevelopmental assessment with children, adolescents and adults. Our clinic has been specifically designed to meet the needs of individuals experiencing learning difficulties. We respect and value neurodiversity and believe that best outcomes are achieved when the environment understands and accommodates individual strengths and challenges. This is why our approach is to work collaboratively with individuals, families, schools, tertiary institutions and workplaces in order to recommend targeted strategies and practical accommodations and support. We see clients for:
*Cognitive and educational assessments
*Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Autism Spectrum Disorder, and Learning Disorder assessments
*Preschool, child, adolescent and adult assessments to explore learning concerns
*Executive functioning difficulties
*Parenting, school and workplace support
*Assessment to determine school and workplace special provisions and adjustments

After the Assessment: The "Now What?" Series 🧩

Receiving a diagnosis for your child—whether it’s ADHD, Autism, or a Specific Learning Disorder (SLD)—marks the end of one process and the beginning of another. It’s common to leave the clinic with a report in hand but a lot of questions about how to actually use it.

We created the "Now What?" Series to help translate clinical findings into daily life. These sessions are designed to bridge the gap between a diagnosis and the practical support your child needs.

What to Expect
Each session is tailored to a specific neurotype and covers:
🧩Implementation: How to turn report recommendations into a daily routine.
🧩Advocacy: Communicating with schools to secure classroom adjustments.
🧩Navigating Systems: Understanding the NDIS and disability education standards.
🧩Community: Connecting with local resources and support networks.

Supporting the Community
To support the broader neurodivergent community, 100% of the proceeds from these sessions are donated to our partner organisations: ADHD Australia, Amaze, and the Indigenous Literacy Foundation.

Joining a Session
🧩Format: Group seminars focused on shared learning.
🧩Cost: Free for all current/past Raise the Bar clients ($45 for others).
🧩Inclusions: Every attendee receives a comprehensive resource handout.

Supporting Rural Healthcare: Insights from the RWAV 2026 Conference 🩺✨
Our Directors, Dr Hayley Anthony and Dr Kate Jacobs, recently attended the RWAV 2026 Conference: Beyond Boundaries and Building Futures in Rural Healthcare. It was an inspiring few days of networking, learning, and even a bit of "All Things Geelong" trivia!.

While the event was a celebration of rural health, it also highlighted some critical challenges. Data shared at the conference revealed that Mental Health and Paediatrics are currently the two largest service gaps in regional Victoria.

At Raise the Bar Psychology, these findings hit home. We are more committed than ever to bridging these gaps by:
🌿Expanding our reach into regional Victoria.
🌿Bringing essential neurodevelopmental and learning assessments to underserved communities.
🌿Providing dedicated post assessment support services where they are needed most.

Hayley and Kate are walking away with fresh ideas and clear goals to ensure that every child and family, regardless of their postcode, has access to the support they deserve. We are excited to continue to "raise the bar" for rural healthcare in 2026 and beyond! 🚀

Embracing the beauty of a different brain. 🌈✨

Finding your place in the world can feel a little lonely when you think differently. At Raise the Bar, we believe that a diagnosis isn't a label—it’s a key to understanding your own unique magic.

Our Building a Positive Neurodivergent Identity programs are all about connection, pride, and feeling "at home" in your own skin.

For the Teens (April Holiday Intensive): 🚀
A warm, peer-supported space where your teen can meet others who "just get it." We spend time celebrating their strengths, deconstructing old myths, and helping them find their voice to advocate for their needs with confidence.

For the Parents (Term 2 Weekly Program): ☕
We know you’re on this journey, too! Our Weekly Parent Program kicks off in Term 2. We dive deep into the "inside-out" experience of neurodiversity, helping you move from managing behaviors to supporting a thriving nervous system.

If you’re looking for a neuro-affirming space where your family is celebrated exactly as you are, we’d love to have you join us.

It’s Neurodiversity Celebration Week (16–20 March 2026).

At Raise the Bar Psychology, we’re proud to support a global movement recognising the many ways people think, learn, and experience the world.

Neurodiversity reminds us that there is no single “right” way for a brain to work. Around 1 in 5 people are neurodivergent - including those who are Autistic, ADHD'ers, dyslexic, and more. These are natural variations in how people think, feel, and connect.

In our work with young people, families, and schools, we see this every day. Different brains bring creativity, insight, and new ways of problem solving.

Supporting neurodiversity means more than awareness. It involves:
• understanding individual profiles of strengths and challenges
• adjusting environments where needed
• reducing stigma and misconceptions
• creating settings where people can participate without unnecessary barriers

At Raise the Bar Psychology, this approach is embedded in how we assess and support young people and their families, with a focus on helping each individual feel understood and supported.

Let’s appreciate and applaud how every mind makes our communities brighter!

Study and Memory Skills Holiday Intensive ✍️📖

We often tell students to "study harder," but for those with ADHD, Autism, or Specific Learning Disorders, the struggle isn't a lack of effort—it’s a challenge with Executive Functioning.

In this intensive 3-day program, students will gain practical tools to bridge the gap between their potential and their performance:
✅Mastering Executive Function: Strategies for time management, breaking down large assignments, and overcoming "task paralysis."
✅The Science of Memory: Moving information from short- to long-term memory using evidence-based techniques like elaboration and spaced practice tests.
✅Managing Exam Anxiety: Tools to regulate the nervous system so students can access their knowledge under pressure.
✅Personalised Systems: Identifying which digital or physical tools actually work for them.

Receiving assessment results can bring up many different emotions for parents.

Some families feel relief.
Others feel uncertainty or worry about what comes next.
All of these responses are completely understandable.

Taking time to process the information and ask questions can help families feel more confident about next steps.

Support is not only for children; parents and caregivers often benefit from guidance and information too.

💛 If you’re navigating this journey, you’re not alone. Contact us today on how we may support you.

After an assessment, many families take part in a support planning meeting.

These meetings help bring everyone together: parents, educators, and professionals to discuss practical ways to support a child.

Topics may include:
• Learning adjustments
• Social and emotional support
• Communication strategies between home and school

When everyone works together, it becomes easier to create consistent support across environments.

Each plan is tailored to the individual child.

Assessment reports can feel overwhelming at first. They often include detailed information about learning, behaviour, and development.

A good report should help answer questions such as:
• What strengths does my child have?
• What challenges might they experience?
• What supports could be helpful at home or school?

If anything in the report feels unclear, it’s always okay to ask your psychologist for further explanation.

Understanding the report is an important step in supporting your child moving forward.

Educational psychologists often work closely with schools to help translate assessment findings into practical classroom strategies.

This may include:
✔ Suggestions for learning adjustments
✔ Support strategies for attention, behaviour or communication
✔ Guidance for teachers and support staff

The aim is to help create learning environments where students can participate and engage in ways that suit their needs.

Collaboration between families, schools, and clinicians is an important part of supporting a child’s development.
