Candle lighting traditionally takes all type of forms in funeral and memorial services. I love that these tiny ‘take home’ candles are a beautiful service moment but also a special item for little people to take home after the service, creating further opportunities for conversation, remembering and connections in the home environment. Sometimes both children and adults need a safe place and a conversation starter to ponder what has been and to reshape their thoughts and questions.

Surf Coast Trek 2026: Trekking Together for our Community

04/03/2026

I wish that I had a giant cheque to hold up in this video! $2024 generously donated by Bakers Delight from our morning in Highton last Saturday. Thanks so much to everyone for your generous support… from those who helped with the bbq, those who visited us to buy lunch and those who have donated online. We have a very special community of people around us.

On the 9th of May team Whole Heart will be taking on the . I will be walking with a team made up of an incredible group of mums who are walking in memory of their beloved late children. The walk is to be held the day before Mother’s Day and we know it will be tough physically and emotionally. We have felt the love of our communities including Danielle and Dave from Baker’s Delight Highton and the team , who approached us and so kindly offered to help fundraise for our team. Such a generous gesture! All funds raised from the trek go to the Kids+ and Give where you Live foundations. I hope to see you in Highton Village on Saturday for one of those delicious hot cross buns or a sausage for your lunch.

‘Room for an elephant’

Taboos and awkwardness around talking about death and dying can prevent people from being supportive to grieving friends and family. Sadly, this reluctance to mention the ‘elephant in the room’ can result in bereaved people feeling lonely and isolated. ‘Room for an elephant’, which illustrat...

Geelong Memorial Park has a picturesque pavilion for outdoor funeral and memorial services. ☀️ This venue is great for telling stories and sharing spoken memories in a relaxed setting. There is always beautiful birdsong. There is equipment for track music and wonderful acoustics for live music also. The natural light makes the use of audiovisual presentations difficult.

Today was my final work day for 2025. This morning I led a farewell for a man I first met in 2022, while assisting with his brother’s funeral. To be asked to lead a service again is very touching and not a role that I take lightly. These ongoing relationships and the invitation to be a part of a families world in some small way is such a privilege.
On many days I have found 2025 to be rather brutal. In this my 5th year in this role I have certainly cried more tears than before. Amongst the celebrations of life and the long lives acknowledged there have been tragedies and more than once I have had to dig deep to search for adequate words to help. I have certainly needed to grow and stretch, to sit with discomfort and press into my own faith. (I also tried Equine therapy but it turns out I am not a horse person.. just a therapy person 😉). I continue to be inspired by the strength and tenacity of people, the strength of the family unit and the ability of community to come together in times of catastrophe and create something beautiful. I’m grateful that every difficult day comes with the reminder to also cherish each moment (the grief and gratitude connection again).
And so… it’s time for me to have a little break. A little pause to sit on the beach, read some books and take some long walks. I’ll be available to lead services from the 7th of Jan. Best way to contact me about future bookings is via SMS or email.
Merry Christmas. Make some beautiful new memories this Christmas season and honour your old traditions. Much love from Kristy xx

Violet the Tabby cat moved into our home office last week. She is now in charge and uses whatever desk space she likes. She is also incredibly distracting and sleeps on the job continuously. If I thought she may be a therapy cat I am mistaken but she certainly brings laughter, which is always needed….and I am in awe of her ‘I couldn’t care less attitude. She is bringing comfort in her own regal style! 👑

Yesterday 5 great-grandchildren were offered the opportunity to view their big Nanny’s body prior to her funeral service. All wanted to and surrounded by many adults in a gentle supported space they said their personal farewells.
During the funeral service I interviewed the children, who had each prepared one question that they wanted to answer in advance as their collective tribute. At the completion of the service some of the children placed some art with ‘Big Nanny’s’ coffin to stay with her. This was what they wanted to do in a child led process of goodbye. 🌈
