Hmm,
You may or may not believe there’s a correlation or Collaboration (for more Insta-sounding benefits) happening within your body regarding stress as a trigger to you pain. Your short term or chronic pain.
Let me give you a real life example, a sneak peek into my own.
Now, I must begin by saying that I am highly in tune with my body, my anatomy and the origin of my initial sources of pain.
I’m also nervous system aware and appreciative of the triggers that show up in my body and the reasons ‘why’ my body protects me, even though it causes pain. (That’ll be a whole other post.)
Today, Monday. Not massaging. Have several jobs to do. All cool, all in the plan, feeling great after a fab nights sleep, morning ritual, stretching, breathwork, tending to attention seeking cats, all going cruisy and on track…..
😬 2pm - slip on wet floor, manage to keep myself upright.
Phew! Swore like a trooper. ‘That was lucky. Heya low back, we are all cool and safe right now’
Deep breaths - crisis avoided!
🚗3.30pm - triggered by driving in the rain (previous horrible and scary experience) - low back tightened and said ‘I’ve got you! I’m a freaking hero right now’ Pain = cheers and eye roll 🙄
Deep breaths - hey hero - chill out - crisis averted.
👧☎️6.10pm - youngest child calls from QLD - (almost 19yrs old) starts convo with “OH MY FU***NG GOD! MY LIFE AT THE MOMENT IS FU***NG CRAZY!”
Instant back tightening! WTF is happening? I’m soo far away! Thoughts of ‘I can’t be there to help you’. ‘Are you safe’ ‘Stay calm - she needs to hear calmness’ ….
In each and every one of these instances, I noticed my back JAM UP, make me walk differently, compensating for the changes.
It wasn’t my brain going ape-sh*t, it was my body.
My body took on my anxiety and stress and created pain.
However, I KNOW that’s how it works. I KNOW, it’s on my side, on my team. Trying to keep me safe. Alerting me to dangers.
These moments, my BODY sensed danger.
And that’s what it’s REALLY GOOD AT! And we have to learn to listen to it.
What signals is it sending? What are we ignoring? When should we slow down and take notice?
