There’s nothing complicated about the right diet during pregnancy. It’s about eating a variety of those foods that we already know are good for us. But there are a couple of things to keep in mind.
Include Folate (Folic acid) for at least a month prior to conception and for the first two months of pregnancy because it’s known to prevent spina bifida. Tablet form from the chemist is simplest.
Eat iron rich foods like red meat, chicken, seafood, beans and green leafy vegetables. Many pregnant mums are low in iron before their pregnancy starts. Give it a boost before you begin!
Avoid Listeria, a germ sourced from soft cheese, cold meat, uncooked seafood and raw eggs. Listeria can cross the placenta during an infection and affect the developing baby.
The internet has a many sites with guidance for what to eat. Here’s one I’d recommend
