So true - negative coping skills such as binge eating, excessive alcohol use and emotional numbing often develop as a way of helping us manage overwhelming situations and removing unwanted feelings. Healing is about gradually adding more adaptive coping strategies to our toolkit 🧰

The mental load we carry can sometimes be huge! A great antidote when it all feels too much is to get out of 'cognitive mode' and into 'sensing mode' via focussing on what we can see, hear, feel, and smell around us πŸ‘πŸ‘‚πŸ€šπŸ‘ƒπŸ˜€

Stuck in COVID isolation? Here are some tips to help you come out the other end with your mental health intact!

- Maintain your routine if you can by going to bed and getting up at the same times, and by eating meals at regular times. Routine is good for our mental health, and sticking to a routine will also help it be less of a shock to the system once you're out of iso and have to go back to your normal life (i.e. once you have to start setting your alarm for 6am again!)
- Stay connected! Try to maintain connections with friends and family via phone or video calls
- Try to exercise if you feel well enough - exercise is great for maintaining and improving our emotional wellbeing
- Remind yourself that isolation won't last long (even though it might feel like forever!). Help yourself ride it out by upping your use of coping strategies such as meditation/mindfulness, exercise, listening to music and deep breathing
- Reach out if you need help - Lifeline ( ph. 13 11 14) and Beyond Blue (ph. 1300 224 636) both offer 24/7 support.
