‘Train your mind to see the good, train your body to feel the good.’ - Patrick Beach.

Monday reminder to carry that relaxed weekend nervous system with you into the week ahead.

Best way to do that? Mindfulness.

3 tips to get mindful before your work day:
1. Close your eyes for a moment. Sense how you’re breathing. Watch belly rise & fall.
2. Do a body scan - are you clenching, holding tension in jaw, fists, shoulders neck. Invite it to relax.
3. Become sensory - what can you see? What can you smell? What can you feel? (Heat, breeze). Bonus tip- do all 3 as you take a sip of morning coffee. Close eyes, inhale the beans, enjoy that first sip, relax. You’re good to go👊🏽

‘I’m too old to do yoga’

Kicking off 2022 with our first athlete bro yoga session of the year💥⚡️⚽️🥅

Our founder Sam put the South Hobart FC NPL team through their paces taking the lads through a 45 minute pre training lower body mobility flow.

Focusing on hips, hamstrings and thoracic mobility the team hit the ground running throwing their bodies back into pre season training for the year and moving through a series of twists, lunges, half splits and forward folds to free up tissue for the season ahead.

With only 2 of 15 lads having tried yoga, all managed to ‘hit the ground running’ (so to speak) and give it a red hot crack. Thanks to all the bros present and the open kindness and good banter along the way👊🏼🙌🏻

Mechanics of a pose - child’s pose

Benefits:
* Stretches hips and thighs
* Releases tension in back
* Stretches chest, shoulders, triceps
* Calms the mind
* Lowers stress and anxiety

How to do it:
1. Bring knees wide apart (towards corners of mat or to where you can).
2. Stretch arms forward - as wide as shoulder width.
3. Lengthen arms and finger tips to keep active or to relax more can bend elbows and make it more restorative.
4. Sink glutes towards heels and hips towards earth.
5. Drop head and let it relax to earth or block.
6. Stay - take some deep belly breaths in and out through nose. Maybe one deep sigh out.

Prescription: Use as often as need pre/post exercise or when feeling overwhelmed🙏🏼

Big week at the office?

Give those glutes some love.

This lower body stretch is simple and can be done lying down or standing.

It also helps tight hips, piriformis and lower back.

To try it… see guide below.

Reclined pigeon - lying down
1. Lie back on a mat, spine relaxed.
2. Bend knees, soles of feet on earth.
3. Hook one foot over a knee.
4. Flex toes if can (in towards body)
5. Thread hands through the gap between legs
6. Interlace fingers behind hamstring of underneath leg
7. Draw the underneath leg towards chest.
8. Relax head down, chin tucked in.

Standing pigeon - for during office hours
1. Stand on own or with a desk/chair support near by to hold
2. Cross one foot on top of knee.
3. Squat down.
4. Stay for a while, relax head down

Aim for 10 breaths! Inhale to relax exhale to squeeze in a little more.

Note boys: the neck often gets strained in this one if not aware. Practise unlocking the jaw, closing eyes, letting head relax.

Never done yoga because it seems to be a ‘feminine’ sport?

We feel you. Between the mums, Lycra, sea of women and modern aesthetics it’s a bit much.

Well not our space lads…

At bro yoga our studio spaces are considered with men in mind.

We selected spaces that feel comfortable, non-intimidating, ‘manly/masculine,’ simple and align with men.

This is our main class location.

Located at a martial arts studio in Sydney CBD, with exposed brick, comfy floors and New York loft vibes with good light.

Held at Garage Jiu Jitsu - 422 Kent St,
the main crowd usually pulling moves here are men.

Come make moves with us next week for our Movember x bro yoga launch!
