Losing a pet can be as tragic as losing a human. The bond one develops with an animal can be so special. I know firsthand. A cat named Charlie Choo entered my life when I was twenty. We had thirteen years together. That cat saw me at my best and at my absolute worst. From share house to share house, she travelled with me and, in her last years, settled in with my now husband and kids. It is a total rollercoaster together. When it was time for us to say goodbye, it was one of my most painful experiences.
The sadness, loss, and shame around feeling so upset about losing a pet. Death is death, no matter who it is. And our connections with the living should be measured by our own selves, not by those who surround us.
Do you know someone who has just lost a pet? Take the time to check in on them. Need some guidance or want to celebrate the life of a dead pet. Hit me up. I have some ideas.
