Today, we’re thrilled to announce that Hobart Private Hospital has successfully passed its accreditation assessment with flying colours! 🎉

A phenomenal achievement that reflects the incredible hard work and dedication of its entire team over the past few months.

Highlights from the assessment include:

✅ Document control and medical record management: Exceptional improvements and great evidence of progress.
✅ Theatre time-out practices: Faultless, showing clear and consistent improvement.
✅ Goals of care and patient risk-screening: These were a standout, with surveyors praising the clear evidence of excellence in practice.

The assessors were not only impressed with the hospitals systems and processes but also with how the hospital presented itself consistently across the board — from how it looked and felt to the professionalism of its people.

Please be advised that the Argyle Street Carpark will close between 9:00 am and 1:00 pm tomorrow for Hobart's Christmas Pageant!

Here’s the pageant route to help you plan:

Start: Corner of Argyle and Liverpool Streets at 10:30 am.
Route: Travels down Liverpool Street, turns onto Harrington Street, and continues to Collins Street.
Finish: Corner of Argyle and Collins Streets around 12:00 pm.

If you’re working, having a procedure, or planning to visit, please allow extra time and consider alternative parking options.

This Perioperative Nurses Week, we united to celebrate the incredible dedication, teamwork, and innovation of our perioperative nurses here at Hobart Private Hospital. With this year’s theme, U.N.I.T.E., we shone a spotlight on the vital roles they play in patient care and the inspiring culture they foster every day. 💙

Monday: Unify 🤝
We kicked off the week honouring the teamwork that ensures every procedure is seamless. Our perioperative nurses work together like a well-oiled machine, proving that unity is strength!

Tuesday: Novice 🌱
We celebrated mentorship and the next generation of talent, highlighting Erik Zhang from our Perioperative Careers Pathways program. Thanks to the guidance of our experienced nurses, the future of perioperative care is in great hands!

Wednesday: Inspire ✨
A special shoutout to our fearless theatre leaders, Jennifer Nesbit and Holly Smith, whose vision and dedication push boundaries and inspire excellence in patient care every day.

Thursday: Talk 🗣️
We focused on the Time Out Process, a critical step that ensures patient safety through open communication. Our team knows that every conversation counts in delivering the highest standard of care.

Friday: Exhale 🌬️
To wrap up the week, we celebrated with morning teas on Thursday and Friday, giving our hardworking team a chance to pause, recharge, and reflect. Self-care is key, and we’re grateful for the compassion and commitment our nurses bring to the theatre and beyond.

🎉 Celebrating excellence in oncology: Congratulations to Associate Professor Penny Blomfield and Dr Louise Nott 🎉

We are thrilled to extend our heartfelt congratulations to Associate Professor Penny Blomfield, who has been awarded the title of 2025 Senior Australian of the Year for Tasmania. 👏 Penny's dedication to women’s health, particularly in the field of gynaecological oncology, has left an indelible mark on Hobart Private Hospital and Tasmania’s medical community at large. Known for her pioneering work and unwavering commitment, Penny was not only the first female gynaecological oncology surgeon in Tasmania but has also consistently advocated for improved cancer care, especially for women in rural and remote areas. Her colleagues here at Hobart Private remember her as a guiding light in surgery and a force of compassion and expertise for her patients. 💫👩‍⚕️

We’re thrilled to share that our incredible Cardiologist, Dr Andrew Black from the Hobart Heart Centre at Hobart Private Hospital, recently joined Joel Rhineberger on ABC Hobart’s Afternoons to discuss the vital topic of heart attack symptoms and the fascinating differences between male and female presentations.

Joined by Dr Clare Rayner, Cardiology Advanced Trainee at the Royal Hobart Hospital and proud recipient of the Registrar of the Year award, Dr Black shared expert insights into how heart attack symptoms can vary significantly and the importance of recognising these differences.

We are beyond grateful for the incredible support shown during our Breast Cancer Awareness Month fundraiser earlier this week. Thanks to everyone’s generosity, teamwork, and enthusiasm in donning pink, we raised an amazing total of $532.60 for this important cause! 💗

A special shoutout to Iain and Arjun, who brought their BBQ prowess, and to Janet for sourcing those delicious cupcakes that everyone enjoyed! A huge thank you to Shellie from DEM and Rachel from PEHA for their dedicated help in organising the initiatives that made this event such a success.

Looking ahead to November, we’re excited to continue our fundraising efforts, this time for Men’s Health and the Movember Foundation. Keep an eye out for our announcement on ways to support this next initiative!

We’re excited to welcome a familiar face to Hobart Private Hospital! After nearly 15 years with Healthscope, starting at Como Private Hospital as an enrolled nurse in 2008 and continuing her career at Holmesglen Private Hospital, Kristy Watts has now joined Armani Pontino as our second discharge planner. With a background in both direct patient care and discharge planning, she brings a wealth of experience and passion to her role. 🩺

Originally from New Norfolk, she recently made the move back to Tasmania, drawn by the fresh air, mountains, and quiet she missed while working in Melbourne. We’re thrilled to have her here and look forward to seeing her thrive at HPH! 😍

After an incredible career that began at St Helens Private in 1999 and continued here at Hobart Private Hospital, we are bidding a heartfelt farewell to Gaylene DiMartino, our dedicated Surgical Ward Clerk, as she retired on 4th September. 🥰

Gaylene’s unwavering commitment, whether assisting with ward duties, training new staff, or stepping in wherever needed, has made a lasting impact on our hospital. She will be truly missed, but we wish her all the best in this new chapter! 💙

We celebrated Gaylene’s contributions with a lovely afternoon tea recently, with staff from all across the hospital invited to attend. Thank you, Gaylene, for your years of service and dedication! 👏

💛 Thanks to everyone who came by to support us, we raised an incredible $333.95! With the hospital’s matching contribution, we’re excited to double that to $667.90, all going towards this important cause.
