75 Conversations Update!🌟

We set out to connect with 75 community groups across Tasmania - but incredibly, we facilitated 78 rich and meaningful conversations about what a connected and respectful Tasmania looks like to communities across the state. We’ve heard what’s working, what’s missing and what matters most - in towns, families, workplaces, schools, neighbourhoods, and beyond.

To every individual and community group who welcomed us, shared their stories, and took the time to participate, thank you. Your voices, honesty, and generosity have helped shape a deeper understanding of what it means to live in a connected and respectful Tasmania. We are truly grateful for your contribution.

As a small thank you, all 78 community groups who hosted a conversation were entered into the draw to win one of two $500 vouchers.

Drum roll… 🥁

We’re excited to announce our winners: Circular Head Men's Shed and Geeveston Community Centre Inc!

Thank you again to everyone who took part , we can’t wait to keep moving forward together on our mission to create a more connected and respectful Tasmania.

This Saturday, Tasmanians will head back to the polls.

This will be our second state election in less than a year, coming at a time when many people are feeling stretched financially, emotionally, and socially. Conversations are growing, especially around important issues like the proposed Macquarie Point stadium.

At Relationships Australia Tasmania, we believe staying connected and respectful even when opinions differ, is more important than ever. How we listen and speak to one another shapes our communities just as much as the election outcome.

As the election approaches, let’s choose kindness and curiosity in our conversations. Small acts of respect can ease tension and help build trust.

Together, we can create a more connected and respectful Tasmania.

This year marks 50 years of NAIDOC, a time to reflect, honour and celebrate the strength, culture and leadership of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

At Relationships Australia Tasmania, we recognise the significance of this milestone. We pay respect to the Elders who’ve led with wisdom, the communities who’ve stood strong, and the next generation who are shaping the future with strength, vision and pride.

The 2025 theme, “The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy,” reminds us of the importance of connection, community and self-determination. It’s a chance to celebrate how far we’ve come and look ahead to what’s possible for a more connected and respectful future in Tasmania.

Today is World Elder Abuse Awareness Day - a global initiative to raise awareness of elder abuse and the ageism that drives it.

💜 Sadly, 1 in 6 Australians aged 65 and over experience some form of elder abuse. This can include emotional, financial, physical or social harm — often from someone they know and trust.

At Relationships Australia Tasmania, we are proud to support older Tasmanians through programs and services that prioritise safety, dignity, and respect.

This includes our Elder Relationship Service, which provides free and confidential support to older Tasmanians and their families to prevent and reduce conflict, improve communication, and protect relationships.

Together, we can challenge ageism, prevent elder abuse, and ensure that every older Tasmanian feels safe, valued, and respected.
