GPs love to tell colleagues about training opportunities - but only if they're worth doing of course!

Our courses on Persistent Pelvic Pain, Perimenopause/Menopause and Pelvic Organ Prolapse are getting out to our GPs across Australia as the word spreads. A GP who recently completed the 'on job' part of the perisistent pelvic pain course reported, "Patients have expressed feeling validated regarding their histories and symptoms, and feeling positive about the way forward. I now feel that both the patient, and myself as the GP, are on the same page with clarity regarding their management goals and individual wishes for care." This GP completed the Vagenius online learning first, to get all the latest evidence and knowledge about management and treatments relevant to GP pracitce. Then embedded knowledge in practice.

RACGP and ACRRM, the professional colleges for GPs want to provide practical and relevant learning which can be implemented the next day in practice. Vagenius courses are accredited, which means the hours count as professional development for a GP.

"A GP is an expert in their field. They update their professional skills and knowledge constantly." Says Colette McKiernan, Learning and Development Lead for Vagenius Training. "To embed some of the eLearning on our courses, the GP can choose to try useful resources out with their patients, for example, they can make a Whole Self-Care Plan using a practical tool developed, taught and trialed by our specialist GP Dr Emily Ware."

With 91% of 13,000 respondents to Victoria's Inquiry into Women's Pain, reporting that the GP is their first, and sometimes only point of contact, many GPs are ready to learn with Vagenius Training, which is the only online, comprehensive course for clinicians to study women's pelvic health more deeply.

Four fixes the NDIA must make—Now
The APA calls on the NDIA to act immediately on these critical issues to protect participant access and the viability of physiotherapy services:

Abolish the price reduction and index prices properly: Physiotherapy price guides in the NDIS have not changed since 2019, ignoring rising operational costs putting immense pressure on providers. This further decrease critically devalues vital care and disrespects the essential and life-changing care that physiotherapy provides to participants within the NDIS. The APA calls unequivocally for this decrease to be abolished and that the NDIA rectify the neglect of a five-year price freeze by indexing the physiotherapy price guide to 13.5%.

Restore travel funding: The intended 50 per cent reduction in travel funding will force clinicians to make difficult decisions about travelling to provide care in homes and natural environments such as schools and sporting facilities. The APA calls for the NDIA to reverse this decision and restore travel budgets.

Support rural and regional community needs: The NDIA intends to eliminate the higher price loadings previously applied in Western Australia, South Australia, Tasmania and the Northern Territory. This change will result in a net reduction of up to $40.06 per hour in those regions, critically impacting the availability of physiotherapy service delivery in communities in very real need of sustainable care.

Remedy gender-based undervaluation: The Fair Work Commission has rightly identified that physiotherapy has long been devalued as a female-dominant profession and has recommended substantial pay rises across the board. The NDIA has a responsibility, and a moral obligation, to ensure it works to support, not obstruct, these legal requirements.
