October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Each October, Breast Cancer Awareness Month serves as a powerful reminder of the impact this disease continues to have on Australians. Breast cancer remains one of the most common cancers in our community, affecting thousands of lives every year.
More than 21,000 Australians (including around 200 men) will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year.
On average, 58 people are diagnosed every single day.
Sadly, over 3,300 lives are lost each year, including around 33 men.
While survival rates have improved significantly (rising from 76% in 1994 to 92% today), there is still work to do.
The goal is ambitious but vital: zero deaths from breast cancer. That means pushing further with research to support those who fall outside that survival rate.
Breast cancer research in Australia is driven by the generosity of our communities.
Donations help fund critical research in prevention, early detection, better treatments, and improved quality of life for those affected.
This month, let’s raise awareness, show support, and continue working towards a future free from breast cancer.
