AI S***m Selection Breakthrough 🧬

A groundbreaking Australian-led study unveiled at ESHRE, the largest fertility conference in Europe, is offering new hope to couples facing the most severe forms of male infertility.

IVFAustralia Embryologist Dale Goss shared how AI S***mSearch - developed by Virtus Health, NeoGenix Biosciences, and top researchers – can work alongside embryologists to detect up to 3x more s***m in the most severe infertility cases, cutting search time by 75%.

Dale says, “This study is centred on patients with severe male factor infertility - those with almost no chance of a biological child. For many, this represents a final opportunity, and without the support of AI, that chance may never come.”

33 couples took part in the pilot study, with the first AI-assisted birth in January.
We’re excited about the future of this technology. Read more at the link in bio 🔗

Tasmanian women struggling with fertility costs could soon receive up to $2,000 in government support under a new subsidy program announced by the Liberals.

The election promise would support around 2,500 Tasmanian women with out-of-pocket costs for in vitro fertilisation (IVF), assisted reproductive technology (ART) treatments and fertility preservation services.

The pledge is part of a broader women’s health package from the Liberals, which also includes four new BreastScreen clinics across the state and extra funding for women’s health service The Bubble.

If re-elected, the Liberal government also plans to push the federal government to subsidise non-invasive prenatal testing.

For Megan White, who has MRKH syndrome, surrogacy wasn’t a choice – it was her only path to becoming a parent.

But under Australian law, people using assisted reproductive technology for surrogacy are excluded from Medicare rebates, even when it’s their only option.

"Someone using IVF with a Medicare rebate would be paying a third the cost of someone who's going through surrogacy and having to pay for everything," explains Dr Manuela Toledo, leading Fertility Specialist and Medical Director of TasIVF.

The IVF Group and the Fertility Society of Australia and New Zealand are now calling for change. 📣

"Any Australian person with a Medicare card should be able to access fertility treatment based on their needs, not on their indication of medical treatment," says Dr Toledo.
