Had a beautiful weekend at the .est1920 Naturopathic Symposium. The only photos I got (which I didn’t even take) were of our 7am pre conference w**d walk in the Sydney CBD. This was with our Environment and Sustainability working group (the raddest group of herbalists). Later that day we presented a panel opening the conversation about sustainability in prescribing. It was a great session and filled my heart up with all the care and love Naturopaths and Herbalists have for our medicine.

I also shared a presentation on Saturday on Sliding scales and accessible Naturopathic care which most folks who know me know is VERY close to my heart. It was super well received and I had so many practitioners chat to me over the weekend about implementing sliding scales or other more accessible models of care. VERY cool.

Lots of really nice catch ups with very cool humans doing great things for our profession… and so many more.

It’s so inspiring getting to have this touch point with your peers, mentors and elders. Feeling very proud to be a Naturopath and excited for some of the new directions I can see our profession growing. 🌱

So looking forward to speaking at the NHAA Naturopathic Symposium in May on a topic I’m SUPER passionate about - sliding scales and accessible healthcare.

I’ll be sharing all about sliding scales and analysing the data I’ve collected from my own clinic and business over the past 3 years.

Hope to see y’all there - let’s keep building a better world where everyone gets the care they need. 💓

From soil to soul: reflections on food, mental health & community.

Thanks for facilitating and dreaming up this gorgeous topic. Community connection for mental health and well-being is something I’m so passionate about.

We discussed looking beyond our personal, individual wellness towards a more collective sense of community care and resilience. Though working on our own health is important, how can we look beyond ourselves and heal in community?

Prioritising connecting with community, helping others and being part of building the lifeboats in a time of crisis. This can feel hard in our current system of overwork, overstimulation and separation.

Inspiring to hear from about the radical world of crop swaps and from about seed saving and local seed library’s. All of these little life boats we build, including my passion .h.w.b are what are going to support and sustain us whatever our future brings.

Thanks for an incredible festival. Can’t wait to see what’s next!

If anyone who came to the festival is keen to get involved with Herbalists Without Borders or the initiatives mentioned above, please reach out. I really encourage folks to take a sometimes vulnerable step towards being involved in something working towards collective wellbeing… whatever that looks like for you.

So much joy for our homegrown raspberries and honey from our girls on my favourite fermented buckwheat pancakes.

Have you made fermented buckwheat pancakes before? Simply soak/ferment buckwheat for 1-2 days in water in a glass jar. Then blend it up, adding water to the consistency you like. Use as you would any pancake batter (I like to fry in butter but you do you). Today we had them topped with raspberries, yoghurt, honey and walnuts. So good for your gut, your hormones and your metabolism 🫶🏽

Lots of folks have been asking me if/how I’m practicing at the moment, so thought I’d share a bit 🌱

I’m not into the hustle of trying to sell myself. But if you’re interested in exploring your health with me, here’s a way to connect.

I love diversity in my work (hey neruo spicies out there) and my clinical practice only makes up part of this. But it is an important part that brings a lot of connection and meaning for me. I love building relationships with the folks I see, and building a better, healthier world together.

If one-on-one doesn’t work for you, I also run a course, do seasonal Herb boxes and run workshops.

If this pricing is still not accessible for you, I’m at the .h.w.b Community Clinic at least once per month which is free or by donation.

Been a bit quiet on here lately as we’ve been transitioning farms and starting to get the new space set up!

We’ve been all bed prep, seed starting, compost making, cow / chicken adoring and building infrastructure 💪🏽

Looking forward to sharing more in the coming weeks - we’ll be sending out a newsletter soon. If you’re keen to be on it DM me your email address.

Safe to say we are over the moon and thoroughly loving life amongst the Blackwoods

We bought a farm!!!

It’s been a wild 6 months looking for a place for me and to live, practice and farm on a larger scale, as well as somewhere that mum will be able to live out the later years of her life. We didn’t know it would be possible, and honestly I’m still pinching myself.

I never thought becoming the custodian of a beautiful patch of land would be possible for me. I’ve always worked low paying, impermanent jobs, worked for myself and spent a big chunk of my week volunteering… not exactly appealing to a bank. But somehow, between the three of us we made it happen! Lucky is the responsible one. And maybe a little bit of magic at play 🪄

This land was stolen and I have lots of mixed feelings about ‘owning’ land. We are already and will continue to pay the rent and hopefully do traditional palawa people proud in the way we care for this country and all the beings that we will share this home.

We can’t wait for all the big dreams we have for this farm. Growing potent, organic and biodynamic medicine, supporting folks in their health and well-being and bringing community together to connect around herbal medicine.

We hope it will be a place of learning, gathering and building our herbal community here in lutruwita even stronger.

It’s been 7 years since I moved to this beautiful island. Tomorrow I turn 34, Friday we mark the winter solstice, and Saturday we watch the full moon in the sky. What a potent time. I’m so grateful and happy and in love with all the people who have been part of the journey up until now.

Here’s to the next 7 years 🌱

Well, it’s been huge. What a month! 💓🌻🌱🌼

+ big changes with .h.w.b, with clinics, securing a few avenues of new funding and looking at restructuring to become our own non-profit - future proofing this community resource

+ travelling to Sydney for the Biodynamics centenary conference thanks to . So inspired about all things farming.

+ making extracts, teas and salves for my beautiful Herb Share members and bottling, labelling, packing them for your Autumn share.

+ Herb ID quiz at the .est1920 Herb Summit with the wonderful and Jason Hawrelak. Bringing fresh herbs up from lutruwita and northern rivers to bring connection back to the plants. So fun!

+ being part of the incredible Sustainability and Environment special interest group, creating an awesome resource and flow chart on sustainable sourcing and responsible use of our herbs.

+ speaking both in the Pearls of Practice and presenting Growing a Resilient Herbal Medicine System at the .est1920 Herb Summit. So incredible to share my journey of growing and speak about the other incredible examples of folks doing amazing things around Australia and the world in the herbal medicine sustainability - community - resilience space.

+ kicking off the second cohort of Herbal Roots, me and ’s 6 month herbal medicine course face to face in nipaluna / Hobart.

All while starting the big adventure of buying a farm!

Safe to say I’m exhausted and currently spending the morning sipping matcha and watching the rain on this chilly Monday.

Huge shout out to , my incredible parter who is endlessly supportive, always helping with all the projects and gives me all the cuddles, reassurance and chocolate when I get too overwhelmed. You’re an absolute dream babe 💓

Really appreciate all the rad humans I get to do all of these projects with! Including everyone involved in Herbalists Without Borders. You all give me so much hope and joy in a world that can get you pretty down with all of the suffering and damage that is being done. 💔
