Birth prep tip - understand the Fear - Tension - Pain cycle for a better birth experience.

Think of the last time you were scared or really anxious…. I wonder if you noticed how your how you felt in your body.. where you felt tension?

You might have noticed your jaw was clenched.. your shoulders tense and possibly up higher than they should be.. perhaps your stomach muscles were tight or hands in fists..

When we are fearful we are flooded with adrenaline.. which causes our body to tense up..(like we’re bracing for pain or something bad to happen)…

In labour.. when you’re fearful.. & you tense up.. the surges your body goes through become far more intense.. which causes more anxiety about the next surge/contraction… you ‘JUST WANT IT TO END ALREADY!!’…

But what if I told you that you can prevent & even break this cycle (if it does happen)..

By working on your MINDSET before birth (work that only YOU can do).. you can change the inner voice you hear during labour & birth!

I recently learnt during the Circle of Security program about something called ‘shark music’… it’s the inner voice that makes you stay in a negative mindset.. it says you can’t do it… it makes you anxious as you wait for something bad to happen - normally this is applied to parenting & how we respond to something that is actually biologically normal about our child’s behaviour… but I’m going to use it in reference to BIRTH - again something biologically normal!

You can choose to allow the ‘shark music’ to continue… (get stuck in your head.. telling yourself you can’t possibly do this any longer.. let fear, tension & pain escalate).. imagine the music from Jaws (aimed to make you fearful for the jump scare ahead!)

OR

You can choose what I call ‘pump-up music’ - the kind of music you’d listen to before a job interview or do something you know will be challenging…. (Mine are ‘Fight Song’ by Rachel Platten or ‘Roar’ by Katy Perry 😂) (aimed to encourage you and make you believe ANYTHING is possible!)

When you go into your labour/birth… I want your mind to have more of a pump-up music vibe…

I want you to know - without a doubt that you CAN birth your baby!

This recognition means so much — not just as a business owner, but as a mum who pours her heart into her work and who often puts her family aside to hold space for you and your family 💕

I do this work because it is my deepest passion, to walk alongside women and families navigating the realms of pregnancy, birth and postpartum. It is honestly such a privilege to be invited into someone’s birth space, home and early postpartum… so I don’t take it for granted in the slightest.

Thankyou to whoever nominated me! My heart is so happy 🥰 Being acknowledged among so many other hardworking and inspiring women is a true honour.

These awards celebrate mums in business who are making an impact in their local communities and beyond, and I’m humbled to be counted among them. 💖

📸 Birth photography 📸

Okay I have to admit it… birth photography is my absolute FAVOURITE genre 🥹😍

I can’t even begin to express how incredible it is to be a fly on the wall and watch women journey through the realms of labour, birth and early postpartum! I think I have cried at every birth I’ve attended both as a doula and photographer 😂 honestly, it’s such a beautiful thing to capture!

Birth is one of the most transformative moments in life, yet its an experience that often passes quickly, and where we’re left with blurred memories of how it all unfolded…

It’s for this reason that birth photography is so powerful—it captures the rawness of your unique birth story. It helps you to piece it all together as time blindness is birth is VERY real.. I know having photos to look back on helped me so much!

It’s a way to relive the emotions, honor your journey, and create timeless keepsakes to share with your child as they grow. I know my girls (2 & 5) love to look at their birth photos and videos!

📢 TAKING 2025 BOOKINGS! 📢

Does this best describe you, mama?

I’m looking for women who are wanting to have a pyshsiological birth, as that’s where *I* as a doula, feel most aligned.

If you’re reading you might be thinking.. why does it matter what YOU want… I’m the one paying for the service….
It matters because you want someone who is all in! I prefer to work with women who are eager to put the time and effort into planning and preparing for birth (including birth mapping AND preparing their mind & body).

I want to work with the couples who for their first birth want to have a beautiful & positive experience! Or for those who’ve had crappy first births, I want to work with the couples who want a different birth story this time around! One that will set them up for a more nourishing and healing postpartum journey.

I literally sit there and think YESSS this woman wants to rock her birth and I can’t wait to witness her come to the end of herself, and meet a new version of herself she never knew existed during labour & birth, and then AGAIN as she steps into her postpartum and becomes a mother! It’s a journey I can’t word in any other way.. it’s a transformation that brings me so much joy to witness 💕

I want to work with women who are ready to do the inner work that is required to leave fear at the door, and birth like her body was built to! 💪🏽

Note: Obviously we can’t expect everything to always go the way that we want it to… that’s the nature of birth - it’s messy and unpredictable!… but having the mindset that you want to aim for a physiological birth with minimal intervention is really important for me, as this excites ME so much! If you ended up needing an induction or epidural or something even though it wasn’t planned, I’m not ditching you and I will still be there every step of the way! I will be right by your side (and your partners’), encouraging you every step of the way, reminding you of how well you’re doing and offering guidance in positions to try and reminding you of your innate ability to birth your baby!!
