Giving your time can also support your wellbeing. 🌱
With National Volunteer Week approaching, it’s a good opportunity to reflect on the role volunteering can play—not just in supporting others, but in supporting your own sense of wellbeing.
From a psychological perspective, volunteering can offer:
• A sense of purpose and meaning
• Opportunities for connection and community
• A chance to build confidence and new skills
• A break from focusing only on your own stressors
For some people, it can also create structure and routine, which can feel helpful during times of change or uncertainty.
It’s important to note that volunteering doesn’t need to be large or time-intensive. Even small, consistent contributions can feel meaningful. At the same time, it’s equally important to consider your own capacity.
Supporting others works best when it feels sustainable for you too.
If you’ve been thinking about ways to feel more connected or purposeful, volunteering may be one option to explore—at a pace that suits you.
