Michelle Murphy is a qualified physician from the UK, having graduated from Liverpool University in 1998. She moved to Australia with her family in 2009 and worked as a GP in Toowoomba before recently relocating to the Gold Coast.
Her areas of interest include pediatrics, women's health, and general medicine, with a focus on chronic disease management.

Do you know where Queensland's first hospital was built? 🤔

The Moreton Bay General Hospital was built on George Street, Brisbane way back in 1849. It took in patients from across Queensland, including the Moreton, Darling Downs, Wide Bay, Burnett and Maranoa districts.

Hospital staff treated more than 90 patients in the first year for diseases like typhoid and tuberculosis. 🤢

But as illness spread, more beds were needed. A new hospital was built on the present site of the Royal Brisbane Women's Hospital (RBWH) in Herston, then known as the Quarries.

Today the RBWH is the largest hospital in Australia and has been open for 155 years. 🙌

New South Wales and Victoria are reporting cases of community transmission of monkeypox (MPX) so it’s more important than ever to be on the lookout for symptoms.

Anyone who has been in close physical contact with someone who has MPX is at risk.

If you have MPX symptoms and have been in close contact with someone with MPX, seek medical advice immediately.

Symptoms include:
✔️ fever
✔️ swelling of the lymph nodes
✔️ distinctive rash (which could look like bumps, pimples or sores) on parts of the body including ge****ls.
