This week we embraced the blooming beauty of spring and celebrated Father’s Day with creativity, colour, and connection. From golden wattle collages to coconut-scented creations, and our “BIG Shoes to Fill” boot paintings, each artwork carried meaning and heart. As we welcomed the start of September, we reflected on what it means to grow strong, shine bright, and honour the people and places that shape who we are.

This week we celebrated “Grow Together, Friends Forever” for International Day of Friendship!
Together we explored the qualities we admire most in our friends and reflected on the kind of friend we want to be. The week was filled with friendship hunts, playful games that helped us learn more about one another, colourful art expressions of how our friends make us feel, and mindfulness practices to help us feel calmer and happier.
A beautiful reminder that friendships help us grow stronger, kinder, and more connected. ❤️👭👫👬🌸🌞

This week, we celebrated “Colour and Unity, Crafting Community”!
Our Shine participants enjoyed giving back with volunteer trips to the Christian Emergency Food Centre, recycling plastic bottles, preparing our garden beds for Spring, and creating symbolic paper looms representing the web of people who make us feel connected and safe. We also crafted cheerful daffodil flowers to raise awareness for Daffodil Day.
So many smiles, so much creativity, and such beautiful reflections!

Last week, we embraced The Art of Happiness — celebrating the small moments that brighten our days. From joy jars and rainbow movement games to happiness hats, positive affirmations, and cosy cups of yumminess, each activity reminded us that joy can be simple, shared, and beautifully creative. We also introduced a calming seated meditation to our gorgeous Legends group, adding a peaceful pause to all the play. Wishing happiness to all! 🌈💛

Interview with our Shine Participant Kim 🤩🌺
1. What do you love most about coming to the Shine Day Program?
I love being with my friends, having my dolls with me, and doing movement games with the staff—especially the ones that include musical instruments.
2. Can you share one of your favourite memories from your time in the Shine Program?
One of my favourite memories was the frozen ice balloon smashing activity on the canvas floor. It really helped me release my frustrations and feel calm.
3. Did you try anything new or outside of your comfort zone while being part of the Shine Program?
Yes, I enjoyed the day we visited horses on a large property. They are beautiful creatures and I felt calm and peaceful around them.
4. Is there a particular project or artwork you’ve created in Shine that you're especially proud of?
I’m really proud of my leaf lantern and my Winter Wonderland sensory collage.
For the lantern, I collected the leaves myself and carefully pasted them inside. In my Winter Wonderland collage, I used star sequins, foil, bubble wrap, and feathers—I love how it feels with all the different textures.
5. Which outing did you enjoy the most with Shine, and why did it stand out for you?
I really enjoyed the underground Seppelt Winery Tour! It was really cool and mysterious.
6. How do you feel about the staff and other participants at Shine?
They’re caring, helpful, fun, and cheeky. I love hanging out with all of them.
7. What’s one thing you’ve learned or discovered about yourself since joining the Shine Program?
I’ve discovered that I’m much stronger and calmer than I used to be. I’m also learning how to re-frame situations, with help from the staff.

This week we celebrated NAIDOC Week with Brushstrokes of the Dreaming.
Our participants explored culture through creative expression — painting with nature, crafting beautiful paperbark art, and awakening the senses with the calming scent of eucalyptus oil.
