High-quality behaviour support plans start with thorough, well-informed behaviour support assessments.

Our policy guidance on effective behaviour support assessments sets clear expectations for specialist behaviour support providers and NDIS behaviour support practitioners.

You can access the guidance on developing high-quality behaviour support assessments, including functional behaviour assessments (FBAs), here: https://bit.ly/3HkciSi.

Short term accommodation is now called short term respite.

We spoke with participants, families and carers about this change. Most told us that short term respite better reflects the value of informal supports and the importance of sustaining these relationships.

We know some people have concerns about the word ‘respite’, but many carers and families use and understand it well. After considering all the feedback, we chose this name because it’s clear and widely recognised.

Short term respite gives you time away from your usual care arrangements, while your primary informal supports take a short break.

We’ve updated Our Guideline to make it easier for you to understand and use. It explains:

✅ who can use short term respite

✅ what it includes

✅ how it works

✅ where it can be used.

The NDIS Commission will take strong action against providers that fail to provide safe NDIS services to people with disability.

Last week our Federal Court action led to a new record civil penalty – $2.2 million – against an NDIS provider following the tragic and preventable death of an NDIS participant.

The Court found Aurora Community Care and its support workers put the participant at serious risk of harm, leading to his death.

This penalty sends a strong message to all NDIS providers to take their obligations seriously.

The Workforce Capability Framework defines what 'good' looks like when it comes to providing NDIS supports and services.

It's for anyone who needs to understand, direct or participate in NDIS work.

Tools and resources are available to help participants, providers and workers to put the Workforce Capability Framework into practice.

Watch this short video - with Auslan translation - to learn how the NDIS Workforce Capability Framework can help you https://bit.ly/4nE8BqZ.

Do you have outstanding invoices?

It's important to submit these before 3 October 2025 if they are over 2 years old. This will help ensure your claims are approved.

The new rules on submitting claims, that started on 3 October 2024, give everyone up to 2 years to submit a claim for payment after the support start date.

👉🏼 To give everyone time to adjust, there has been a 12-month grace period.

👉🏼 The grace period for submitting late claims will end on 2 October 2025.

👉🏼 From 3 October 2025, any claims submitted that are older than 2 years will be rejected.

Facebook is not the place to share personal information, especially about your NDIS plan.

We've been made aware of some Facebook group admins asking NDIS participants to share information about their NDIS plans as a requirement of joining their group. It's important not to share any personal information online unless you know how it is going to be used.

You have the right to ask why someone wants your personal information, and how they're going to use it.

For more information about keeping your personal information safe online visit the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner website: https://bit.ly/3IkqR9m
