Welcome to No Lights No Lycra Hurstbridge Term Four of 2025!
Yikes! Can you believe it?
Things can get a little bit hairy in term four can't they. So let NLNL Hurstbridge be your constant safe space. The hour of the week where you forget about all the things that keep you awake and busy in term four... the Christmas count-down, end of year teachers gifts, end of year (everything) parties, summer holiday plans, getting ahead on 2026... 🥵
You deserve at least one hour a week to look after your body and mind! Move your own way on the dance floor, enjoy music you love and discover the songs that other local dancers love as well.
👉Term four commences tonight, Monday the 6th of September at 7.30pm and the last session of the year will be on the 8th of December.
I don't run a session over the Cup Weekend, but am open to running one if there is enough interest closer to the date.
There are nine sessions in term four, and it's a great time to commit to dancing and buy yourself a 5 class pass, because you get a 6th class FREE! I keep a record of your attendance, and they can be carried over to 2026.
If you've never been along before, you're in for a treat. You'll find dance moves you didn't know you had, meet friendly locals and go on all sorts of musical journeys.
I guarantee you will enjoy a night of movement, probably some nostalgia and a few musical discoveries, and most importantly enjoy total dance floor freedom!

Bookings: No need to book, however if you pre-buy your entry I can contact you in the event of a last-minute cancellation due to illness. I can’t guarantee that I will have change, so please aim to bring correct cash.
What to wear: Whatever you like! (Despite the name, there is a lot of active wear at NLNL) Be prepared to get sweaty. Please cover any fit bits to avoid flashing extra light on the dance floor).
What to bring: You’ll definitely want a drink bottle
Parking and entry: There is plenty of parking available in the car park alongside the hall. Entry is via the green, back door off the car park. The foyer has ramp access and is available as needed. I keep an eye on it until 7.30pm, but you can also message me in advance if you need to enter this way and I will ensure it is left open until you arrive.
Running Late: The back door will be open until 7.40pm, so feel free to join us if you are late and we are already dancing, just give your eyes a moment to adjust before finding a spot! There is no entry after 7.40pm as the doors will be locked.
The facilities: Hurstbridge Hall is a fantastic hall (opposite Hurstbridge Primary school), with plenty of space to spread out. There is a large separate foyer if you need to take a break, and a kitchen to refill your water bottle. Entry via the foyer is wheelchair accessible and there is a wheelchair accessible toilet.
Cancellations: I run NLNL Hurstbridge by myself, so there may be times when I need to cancel the session at the last moment. Please get in the habit of checking this page before leaving home to check there hasn’t been a cancellation notice. If you pre-buy your entry I will be able to notify you directly.
Song Requests: I love including your song requests. You are always welcome to message me or comment on a post with a song you would love to dance to. I aim to have the song lists finalised 24 hours before the session, but you are welcome to contact me on the day if you’re coming along and if I have a chance, I will shuffle things around to get your song in. If you're attending regularly, you can send me a list of song requests and I will chip away at it each week!
Sound levels: I aim to keep the music to a comfortable level and check in regularly with attendees to see if the volume suits them. We like it loud enough so that you can sing along without offending anyone! If you are concerned that the sound level will not be to your liking, I recommend bringing a pair of disposable ear plugs just in case. And if you wish to come regularly you may like to consider some re-useable ones.
Additional needs: If there is any way I can assist you to make this an experience that you can access and enjoy, please send me a message. Companion cards are welcomed and if you require a companion to attend, your companion attends for free.
How does NLNL work?: The lights go off, and the music goes on! We all find our patch of the dance floor and keep to ourselves, however there is plenty of room to accomodate your big dance moves. As our eyes adjust we can see enough to know where other people are, so we never bump into each other. It's a talk free zone, but singing, cheering and clapping feel great. This is a time to lose yourself in the music and move your body however you like.
I can’t wait to get dancing again. I love the community we are building at NLNL Hurstbridge and look forward to seeing you all again and meeting those who are yet to join us.

I thought I should introduce myself. (Lie! One of our regulars thought I should introduce myself... thank you to Kristin from Honey Images Photography for forcing this impromptu photo shoot on me!)
My name is Bec and I started up NLNL Hurstbridge in 2019. It was my answer to dealing with life events which had left me feeling a bit old and depressed. I attended Warrandyte NLNL (Mechanics Hall, Wednesdays 7-8pm) and loved it! But I knew that I needed one closer to home to ensure that I attended every week… for the rest of my life!
NLNL gave me back my sparkle, energy and a pretty big dose of excellent mental health. I would love for you to come along and experience the same thing.
Everyone is welcome and no bookings are required. If you are concerned that you have additional needs that need to be catered for, please send me a facebook message and we can work out how to make NLNL work for you.
Children are welcome at NLNL but it is advisable that you attend alone first to determine if it is suitable for your children. Please read the pinned post which outlines rules and guidelines for children attending.
NLNL is a non-pretentious, daggy, healthy, crazy fun activity. At Hurstbridge NLNL we are a friendly, welcoming group who cut loose on the dance floor every week. Most of us come on our own… when the lights go out we all dance alone anyway.
During the week you might spot me shazamming music in the shopping aisles, flicking through radio stations or pulled over in emergency stopping lanes adding songs to spotify lists. I love my job as a song collector, it is a joy to work on new playlists every week for us all to enjoy. I welcome your requests too.

Here is a little run down on what NLNL is:
- a place for people to come and dance freely in a friendly, non-threatening, drug and alcohol free atmosphere.
- an event that occurs in a dimly lit room: with the lights low people can truly dance without worrying about what they look like.
- a time to dance independently in the company of others, in order for people to truly lose themselves in the music it is important to keep talking to a minimum.
- not about technique and being a ‘good’ dancer, it’s about the experience of dancing with no one watching and the joy that this brings.
- a place to exercise at your own pace while having fun.
- promotes a healthy mind and a healthy body.
- about making dance accessible for everyone.
It is a place to shake out the stresses of the week, let go of your inhibitions and completely be yourself.
