Celebrating 47: A Call to Rebuild Strength 💪🏻
Today, I’m excited to share my journey as I celebrate my 47th birthday! 🎉 Over the past few months, I've noticed a significant drop in my strength, flexibility, and stamina. Balancing life and my newly opened healing space has kept me busy, but I’ve realised it's time to prioritise my health again.
A huge thank you to my wonderful hubby, Matt, and our kids for gifting me a voucher to Hurstbridge Pilates and Yoga! With the studio conveniently located right across from my healing space, I have no excuse not to dive back into a reformer Pilates class.
As we age, particularly in our late 40s and 50s, maintaining strength becomes increasingly vital. Here are some important insights:
1. Muscle Mass Decline: After the age of 30, we can lose 3-5% of muscle mass per decade. This process, known as sarcopenia, accelerates in our 50s. Strength training can help mitigate this loss.
2. Bone Density: With ageing, bone density can decrease, leading to a higher risk of fractures. Engaging in weight-bearing exercises like Pilates not only builds muscle but also strengthens bone.
3. Metabolism Shift: Our metabolic rate naturally declines with age, making it easier to gain weight. Regular strength training boosts metabolism and helps maintain a healthy weight.
4. Mental Health Benefits: Exercise releases endorphins, which can improve mood and reduce feelings of anxiety and depression. As we navigate life changes in our 40s and 50s, this boost is invaluable.
5. Functional Fitness: Building strength enhances our ability to perform daily activities, ensuring we maintain our independence and quality of life as we age.
Returning to yoga and Pilates is not just about physical strength; it’s about holistic well-being. I’m ready to embrace this new chapter and prioritise my health, and I encourage everyone to consider the same.
Here’s to strength, flexibility, and a vibrant 47! 💪✨ Let’s make time for what truly matters!
