Pick of the day: 75 years old lady complaining of right-sided inner thigh pain. At laparoscopy, a right obturator hernia is identified in the pelvis and reduced. The defect is covered by a soft polyester mesh and easily secured with non-traumatic fibrin glue (Tisseel). Her post-surgical outcome is unremarkable.

To whom it may concern,

I would like to appeal to you for assistance in supporting much needed surgical trips to the South Pacific.

As Co-Chair of DAISI, I and twenty-six other surgeons from Australia and New Zealand regularly travel to islands in the South-Pacific, such as Vanuatu, Kiribati, Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands, to perform urgently needed major surgical procedures and cancer surgery. This service otherwise is simply not available.

With all surgeons and specialists covering the cost of their own flights, accommodation and working voluntarily, and with several scheduled trips per year, as you can imagine this represents quite a significant financial burden to all our volunteers. Up until now, there has been no funding provided by the Government

DAISI (Doctors Assisting in South-Pacific Islands) is a not for profit, non-government tax-deductible charity registered with the Australian Taxation Office (ID: 51769931239), with all donors receiving a tax-deductible receipt.

I therefore appeal to you to kindly consider sponsoring a surgeon and/or anaesthetist on future surgical trips to the South Pacific to assist with urgent major surgical procedures and cancer surgery. Please be assured that your donation will not only facilitate essential surgeries but also allow us to educate and train local healthcare professionals to assist their local communities.

Account Name: DAISI BSB: 012405 Account Number: 403619756 Swift Code: ANZBAU3M

Address: GPO Box 4488, Sydney, NSW 2001, Australia

$700 will cover accommodation
$1,800 will cover flights
$2,500 will cover both flights and accommodation.

If you can help in any way, please do not hesitate to contact me on +61(0)403 492 428. We will provide all donors with a report on how the money was spent and how many surgical procedures were performed. We will also add your name to the sponsorship page (https://daisi.com.au/sponsor-a-trip/) on our website.

About This Page

I am a Sydney-based general and upper-GI surgeon who has considerable experience in laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery. I treat hernia, reflux, gallbladder, colorectal, cancer, skin cancer, lumps & bumps, and much more.

I perform a significant amount of volunteer work in the South Pacific region for an organisation called DAISI: Doctors Assisting In South-Pacific Islands. The South Pacific lacks both doctors with relevant experience and medical facilities that can handle major surgery.

To perform routine volunteer work involves pausing my Sydney clinic. Unfortunately, my overheads in Sydney do not pause just because I head abroad to volunteer.

This page was setup to show the public the value of what doctors can achieve in our region, why it is important that we help our region and the value of helping our neighbours, and if you feel so kind, convince you to donate to our mission so that we can continue our volunteer work in a sustainable manner.
