These visual fields belong to a patient with advanced glaucoma, the left eye has already lost most of its vision.
Glaucoma often progresses without symptoms, and many people don’t realise vision is being lost.
This patient’s mother went blind from glaucoma. When he was diagnosed, our priority was protecting the vision he still had. He recently underwent surgery with a Paul glaucoma implant (spot the tube in the photograph of the eye), and his eye pressure is now excellent without drops.
Ahead of World Glaucoma Week, we wanted to share the reminder that glaucoma often has no warning signs. Regular eye examinations are the only way to detect it early — especially if you have a family history.
