Meet Dr. Nancy Younan – our experienced comprehensive ophthalmologist with over 20 years of experience!

✨ Specialist training: Prince of Wales Hospital, Sydney
✨ Fellowship: Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital, UK

Dr. Younan has cared for patients across Sydney, Tasmania, and abroad in India, where she performed charitable cataract surgery. She has supervised future ophthalmologists, published in peer-reviewed journals, and brings a wealth of experience to every patient she treats.
She also speaks Arabic.

Last week, I had the privilege of working with a phenomenal team during a two-day surgical trip to Bourke with the Outback Eye Service. We performed a range of successful cataract operations, including some complex cases — two white cataracts, a posterior polar cataract in a young mum, and two Hydrus implants for patients with coexisting glaucoma. We also managed a few unexpected emergency cases. A rewarding trip, highlighting the ongoing need for quality eye care in rural communities.

Just back from the World Glaucoma Congress in Waikīkī, Hawaii 🌺☀️
It was a fantastic few days of learning, reconnecting, and sharing ideas with glaucoma specialists from around the world. Highlights included emerging evidence on how lifestyle factors may influence glaucoma control, insights into evolving surgical techniques—both new and refined—and hearing from colleagues doing fascinating niche research in the field.

It was a privilege to be part of such a vibrant and international meeting… and of course, to enjoy a bit of Hawaiian sunshine before returning to this wild Sydney weather! ⛈️

“On Wednesday, I had the pleasure of presenting at a “Grand Rounds” event hosted by Young Optometrists and Nexus Hospitals, sharing case studies and guiding a fantastic group of junior optometrists through clinical decision-making.
Then on Thursday, I joined the UNSW Medical Students’ Oculus Society’s “Pathways to Ophthalmology” panel to share my journey into this fulfilling career and offer advice on the challenging path to specialist training.

Both evenings gave me the chance to reflect on what makes this work so meaningful, and were a wonderful opportunity to connect with the next generation of passionate, motivated eye care professionals” - Dr Nicole Lim

Over the weekend, Dr Leanne Cheung was Examiner in Charge for a successful and rigorous clinical examination (OBCK) for Ophthalmology Registrar doctors. 43 Registrars from Australia and New Zealand were examined at the Prince of Wales Hospital in their first hurdle to achieve their qualification to become a member of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmology. A huge thank you to the volunteer patients from Visionary Eye Specialists who were the patients for this important exam. Your contribution is helping train the next generation of eye doctors.
