Over the years, pop culture has shaped how we view neurodiversity and autism. But awareness doesn’t always mean understanding.

Many Autistic people still face barriers—including an unemployment rate of around 30%!

This World Autism Understanding Month (April 2026), let's go beyond awareness and commit to real understanding. Head to www.aspect.org.au/waum to hear directly from the Autistic community about what true inclusion looks like.

🚨✨ SIBLING ROAD CREW ACTIVATED ✨🚨

*Arle* has officially upgraded her ride… and big brother has proudly stepped into his new role as *Chief Buggy Navigator* 😎🛞

Just look at this duo! One confident queen in the seat (serving style and sass 💁🏽‍♀️✨) and one protective, proud big brother ready to roll right beside her.

This new buggy isn’t just equipment — it’s freedom for the whole family.

From an OT perspective, here’s why this is such a big deal:

💺 *Postural support = comfy, supported body*
When Arle’s body is aligned and secure, she doesn’t have to work so hard just to sit. That means more attention for chatting, observing, learning and engaging with the world around her.

⚡ *Energy conservation = longer adventures*
Less physical strain means she can stay out longer — at school, at the shops, at the park — without fatigue cutting the day short.

🌍 *Safe community access = more “yes” moments*
Outings become easier, smoother and safer. The focus shifts from “Will this be too much?” to “Where are we going next?”

👫 *Sibling memories = shared experiences*
Big brother doesn’t have to hang back. Arle doesn’t miss out. They get to explore together — building connection, confidence and a whole lot of fun along the way.

And for Mum and Dad?
It means less stress, more spontaneity, and family adventures that don’t end early.

Because mobility support isn’t about limitation —
it’s about participation.
It’s about inclusion.
It’s about being right in the middle of life.

And with that smile?
Arle is absolutely ready to roll 💖🛞✨

On March 21, we join the global community in celebrating the strengths, voices, and contributions of people with Down syndrome. This year’s theme, Together Against Loneliness, highlights an important truth: inclusion isn’t just about being present — it’s about truly connecting, belonging, and being valued.

Loneliness affects many people with Down syndrome more deeply and more often than the general population, making genuine inclusion, meaningful relationships, and welcoming communities more important than ever.

Let’s stand together, create spaces where everyone feels they belong, and make sure no one faces loneliness alone.
💛 Wear your bright socks, share the message, and help us spread awareness!

🌈 Occupational therapists often highlight the importance of visual supports, especially in neurodivergent households, because clear visual structure can reduce stress and improve daily functioning.

Products like the new Kmart Digital Family Planner aligns closely with these evidence‑based strategies, offering features that support independence, predictability, and smoother transitions:

✨ Clear weekly layout – Helps reduce cognitive load and makes upcoming tasks or events easier to anticipate.
✨ Colour‑coded profiles – Supports quick visual recognition, allowing each family member to identify their own responsibilities at a glance.
✨ Built‑in timers and reminders – Useful for individuals who experience time‑blindness or benefit from external cues during transitions.
✨ Customisable routines and chore lists – Encourages autonomy and minimises reliance on verbal instructions, which can be overwhelming or easily forgotten.
✨ Centralised family hub – Creates shared understanding and reduces the mental load often carried by parents or caregivers.

Visual tools like this can make everyday routines more predictable, lower stress levels, and help neurodivergent individuals feel more in control of their environment. Simple, accessible supports can create meaningful improvements in household flow and emotional regulation. 💛
