After a long bus trip from Athens on Tuesday, we arrived in Meteora, Northern Greece. A short stop on the way at a pretty seaside village, Camino Voula.

Meteora is a UNESCO World Heritage Site because of the centuries old monasteries perched high on the tops of stone pillars. Initially, monks lived in caves high up on the sides of these columns then eventually monasteries were built. The access was by VERY long ladders or rope baskets that carried people and goods.

In Neolithic times, these pillars were covered by ice and water, which eventually flowed down after earth movement, becoming the Agean Sea. Simply stunningly beautiful topped off with a sunset over the mountains.

Each time we've been to Athens, we've wanted to go to Lycabettus Hill but just haven't got there. But we did yesterday! And the steep walk with many steps then a funincular ride made it totally worthwhile. It is the highest point in Athens with spectacular views.

Lycabettus means the Hill that is walked by wolves. Mythologically, it is said to have been dropped by the Goddess Athina when she was carrying it for the construction of the Acropolis. There is a church atop the Hill- the 19th century Chapel of St George, as well as a restaurant. It is a popular spot to view the sunset.

We're off to Meteora this morning for an overnight stay πŸ’™

It's been a big few days since we left Santorini for Crete with Jassy's Draw and Discover Tour finishing on Saturday. We are now back in Athens getting ready for our family holiday.

As usual, Crete was amazing - the pace is slower here, the light is different. We visited Heraklion Museum, a day tour onto the Lasithi Plateau to an olive oil and pottery family run business, a monastery, lunch in a local village and then a visit to the Palace of Knossos.

I taught participants how to draw a Labyrinth, sharing the myth of Ariadne and her golden thread, Theseus and the Minotaur. I made a Labyrinth using gold wool on the rooftop and a walk of the Labyrinth was the closing ceremony.

It has been such a wonderfully enriching tine spent with beautiful women. It was so special to share this time with my 2 daughters and 3 of my granddaughters. Memories to last lifetimes πŸ’™πŸ‡πŸ‡³πŸ’™

Our time in Santorini this year has seen us blessed with magnificent weather, especially in comparison to April last year when it was absolutely freezing cold and blowing a gale. Temperatures have been high 20s with a light breeze - bliss.

A magnificent Santorini sunset at dinner with smashing of plates after dinner. Then yesterday a tour to see the church of 3 bells, photo at a famous Instagram spot (apparently), underground cave winery museum followed by a wine tasting and then the incredible village of Akrotiri which is about 4000 years old. Akrotiri, said to be the Lost City of Atlantis discovered in the 1950s after a farmer's donkey fell through a hole in the ash. Such an advanced civilisation with indoor toilets and plumbing, underground sewerage and beautiful frescoes, covered in volcanic ash after an eruption. Some of us swam in our clothing at Black Beach where the sand really is very black.

Off to Crete this afternoon πŸ‡πŸ‡³πŸ’™πŸ‡πŸ‡³

Nanny the Crying Traveller only shed a few tears yesterday morning whilst standing with a granddaughter in Syntagma Square to watch the changing of the guard. What a spectacular sight, even though it was quite crowded.

We had a day to do whatever we liked so we cruised through the markets in Syntagma Square, drinking coffee at the amazing Ergon House - also an organic shop and deli. Beautiful dresses were purchased, a beautiful lunch at Stone Cafe, a rest and then a drawing session with cocktails on the hotel rooftop, where Jassy showed us how to draw the Acropolis.

Our night ended in Plaka with food and wine and traditional dancing. Currently on a REALLY big ferry sailing to our next stop - Santorini - where no doubt Nanny will cry some more πŸ‡πŸ‡³πŸ’™πŸ‡πŸ‡³

I have a new title: "Nanny - The Crying Traveller " with a by-line from Carissa - "she's so cute ".

I cried my way all around Scotland a few years ago, overcome by the sheer majesty and incredible beauty that I saw

Yesterday, we had a walking tour of Athens that included the Acropolis and the Parthenon. It was only about 10 minutes in to our walk that the tears started to flow - the rich history, ancient ruins, myths and legends.

I'm so grateful to be in this beautiful country once again, my heart and eyes overflowing πŸ‡πŸ‡³πŸ’™πŸ‡πŸ‡³

I'm currently in Greece for a few weeks, initially assisting my daughter on her Draw and Discover art tour and then a family holiday so posts might be fewer.

Here's a few pics of my first day. I love Greece - the people, the food, the culture, the olives, the olive oil, real Greek salad ... πŸ’™ πŸ‡πŸ‡³

There's not too many places where you can sit at your favourite local cafe and see whales. So many people just on their morning walk, oo-ing and ah-ing watching this spectacle of Nature. I never tire of seeing this πŸ’™

Yesterday in our Wise Women’s Meditation Circle, we celebrated two birthdays - one that was yesterday and one to come next week. I ordered these beautiful flowers from Julie Crosbie and she delivered them to the yurt just after our session had finished. They are simply exquisite, good quality flowers, lovingly put together by a highly trained florist. If you're wanting flowers for any occasion, contact Julie. You won't be disappointed.

And yes - we sang birthday wishes, ate the cake that I baked and laughed and chatted together. A lovely morning to celebrate the day that 2 beautiful souls graced the Earth with their presence πŸ’™πŸŒΉπŸŽ‚
