They say the body whispers before it screams.
I’ve learned how true that is.
Like many women, I was taught early that taking care of everyone else came first. So I did what I knew how to do. I became a chiropractor. I worked long hours. I carried responsibility for my clients, my team, and my community. For years, pushing through felt like strength.
I’ve always been able to keep going. Rarely sick. Highly functional. Reliable. For a long time, that looked like resilience.
Then, quietly, things changed. I became breathless walking uphill. I needed more sleep. My focus slipped. Like many women in their 40s, I assumed hormones. On paper, everything looked “fine.”
But my body was already whispering.
I kept pushing—until those whispers became impossible to ignore.
Here’s what I know now, both personally and professionally: doing all the “right” things can help you keep functioning, but it doesn’t always mean your nervous system feels safe. And when we don’t listen early, the body finds louder ways to get our attention.
At New England Chiropractic, this is why we care so deeply about the early signs. About understanding stress, load, recovery, and nervous system capacity—not just pain. True resilience isn’t about pushing harder. It’s about having the support, awareness, and care to respond while the body is still whispering.
You don’t need to wait until something is wrong to listen.
You don’t need to push through to prove strength.
If you want support to feel well, stay well, and understand what your body is telling you, we’re here to have that conversation.
Your body is always communicating.
Let’s listen—together—before it has to shout.
