πTwo Stunning Full Moons to Watch in May π
Seeing two full moons in the same month is quite rare. Even more special, this phenomenon will not occur again in the month of May until 2045, making this year a great opportunity for skywatchers to enjoy a unique lunar event.
π May 1 β The Flower Moon
The first full moon of the month is known as the Flower Moon, a name inspired by the blooming flowers that appear during spring.
Moonrise: 7:06 PM (EDT)
Peak Fullness: 1:23 PM (EDT)
Although the moon reaches its peak earlier in the day, it will still appear bright and fully illuminated when it rises in the evening.
Best Viewing Direction: Look low toward the east-southeast horizon shortly after sunset.
π May 31 β The Blue Moon
The second full moon in May is called a Blue Moon. This term refers to the second full moon within the same calendar month, which happens only occasionally.
Moonrise: 8:43 PM (EDT)
Peak Fullness: 4:45 AM (EDT)
Special Feature: This moon is also a Micromoon, meaning the Moon will be near its farthest distance from Earth. Because of this, it may appear slightly smaller and a bit dimmer than usual.

Tips for the Best View
To experience the most beautiful view of these full moons, choose a location with a clear view of the eastern horizon. As the moon rises, the Earth's atmosphere can create deep golden, orange, and reddish colors, giving the Moon a dramatic glow.
Open spaces, waterfront areas, or locations away from tall buildings and trees provide the best skywatching experience.
Donβt forget to mark your calendar and enjoy this rare celestial event!
