Today is World Parkinsons Day and a huge shout out to those living with, and caring for, members of our community impacted by this condition.

Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a whole body, progressive, neurodegenerative condition that affects mood, movement, GI tract, vision, sleep, memory and thinking. There are over 40 different symptoms that people with Parkinson’s can experience, though each person has a different combination of some, but not all, of them. The most recognisable symptoms are tremor (shaking), muscle rigidity (stiffness), bradykinesia (slowness of movement) and postural instability (balance issues and falls).

It's World Autism Awareness day. Did you know...?

Around 1 in 100 Australians is autistic and 85% of the community has a personal connection with an autistic person.

Autism affects the way individuals interact with others and how they experience the world around them. Every autistic person is different, which means that each person has unique strengths and challenges.

“If you’ve met one person on the autism spectrum, you’ve met one person on the spectrum.” Prof Stephen Shore

Autistic people may have:
-challenges with communicating and interacting with others
-repetitive and different behaviours, moving their bodies in different ways
-strong interest in one topic or subject
-unusual reactions to what they see, hear, smell, touch or taste
-preferences for routines and dislike change.

Hello Inverloch,
How many people do you know living with epilepsy?

Make March Purple is an annual initiative that raises awareness and funds to support people living with epilepsy in Australia. In 2025, the theme is ‘Purple Heroes’, which aims to celebrate those facing the challenges of epilepsy daily, including people with epilepsy, parents and carers, doctors and neurologists, teachers and so on.

We will be wearing purple today so make sure you add a touch of purple to your outfit and help us raise awareness.

It's Coeliac awareness week.

Coeliac disease (pronounced ‘seel-ee-ak’ and spelt celiac in some countries) is a common but under-diagnosed immune-based condition, triggered by gluten. In those with coeliac disease, the body’s immune system reacts to gluten by attacking itself. The resulting inflammation can lead to many different symptoms.

Approximately 1 in 70 Australians have coeliac disease. However, only 20% of this number are diagnosed. This means the vast majority of Australians who have coeliac disease don’t yet know it.

Long term health problems, such as osteoporosis, liver disease, infertility and a higher chance of developing other autoimmune conditions, can occur if a diagnosis of coeliac disease is overlooked or delayed. A diagnosis of coeliac disease and treatment with the gluten free diet reduced the risk of any long term complicati
