Disabled Surfers Association Bass Coast

Disabled Surfers Association Bass Coast Disable Surfing event organised for the Bass Coast Surfers can surf anywhere from 0-5-6 waves depending on what they want to do.

The Disabled Surfers Association (D.S.A) will be offering a surfing experience for people with a disability at the Inverloch Surf Beach in February each year. The event involves taking people with any disability for a surf on broken waves in waist depth water with a minimum ratio of 1 surfer to 6 volunteers (typically we have 20 volunteers/to 1 surfer). Surfers assume the most comfortable position on the board (typically laying or sitting) we also have a specially made floatation device which sits on the board and provides support. An experienced “Red Shirt” team leader is positioned on the back of the board to provide support and safety while on the wave, the other 20 or so volunteers form a human tunnel for surfers to ride in between. For ongoing events we are hoping to create a local DSA Branch and with the assistance of local sponsorship, volunteers and support to purchase necessary equipment; Beach Wheelchairs, 11 ft. surfboards, DSA Rash vests, transportation trailers and Marquees. Participation would be expected to be approximately 200 volunteers and 60 surfers (participants). Food, water and sunscreen will be supplied on the day. This public event is covered by Public Liability through the Disabled Surfers Association.

Today Bass Coast DSA had our annual general meeting. We went over the volunteer and participant feedback for the 2025 events and how we can continue improving, we wrote lists for equipment and shelter improvements that we need for next season, and we re-elected the official positions within our committee and welcomed some new members.
Overall we on the committee are honored to be able to work alongside so many fantastic disability and all abilities surfers, their carers, family members, and of course the amazing volunteers & sponsors that make our events possible. Thank you all ❤️

Planning for next year’s events and DSA Bass Coast’s 10 year anniversary is well underway and we can’t wait!! Tell your friends & family! It’s going to be an awesome 2026!!

On the 13th June held their winter/spring issue magazine launch party. The ticket sales were a fundraiser for and Coast magazine ended up raising $1640 to help keep our events free for all attendees. It was a packed house and we heard some great music, interviews and speeches about life, events and exploration around our beautiful coast. So a huge thank you Coast magazine. Grab a copy now legends, it’s an incredible magazine.

This national volunteer week, we can’t thank our amazing volunteers enough.

Every event we are flawed by the amount of good vibes and good hearts that show up to bring smiles to dials and create an experience that is often life changing for many incredible members of the all abilities and disability communities.
Thank you all ❤️

In 2023 and 2024 held a charity golf day that incredibly raised 17 thousand in the 1st year and 18 thousand in the second for the events. (Check out their vid of the day)

This crucial funding helped us purchase new equipment to help more participants have a surf, maintain our existing equipment, Purchase rash-vests, acquire more wheelchair enabling beach mats, and also purchase the food and bits and pieces needed to run each event enabling us to keep the events completely free for all attendees.

So a huge thank you to you all at ❤️❤️❤️
