But just as importantly, they’re there to empower you to make your own choices and live life on your terms.

Recently, we shared a lunch with Rhys and Robbie, their families, and stakeholders as we began the transition of these two men to live together.

Trust isn’t built in one day it’s built by showing up, again and again.

When you receive your NDIS plan, one of the most important decisions you’ll make is how your funds will be managed. This choice can affect your flexibility, the types of providers you can use, and how much admin you need to do.

There are three options:

NDIA-managed
The NDIA pays providers directly. You can only use NDIS-registered providers. This is a great option if you want less paperwork but with less flexibility.

Plan-managed
A Plan Manager (like a bookkeeper for your plan) handles the finances and pays both registered and non-registered providers. You get flexibility and help with the admin.

Self-managed
You take full control of your funds paying providers, keeping receipts, and managing claims. It gives you the most flexibility but also the most responsibility.

You can also have a combination of these some parts self-managed, others plan-managed. Whatever you choose, make sure it aligns with how you want to live and what supports work best for you.

Heidi and Kasey recently moved into their very first home with drop-in supports and they’re already kicking goals together.

This week, it was all about homemade pizza!

Heidi got clever with a cheese-free version topped with Doritos (genius idea)

Kasey went all in with his own delicious pizza creation, showing off his cooking skills too.

These moments aren’t just about food they’re about independence, creativity, and enjoying life on their own terms.

If you’re new to the NDIS or helping someone navigate it, you might be wondering: Where does the funding go, and who controls it?

Here’s the short version: NDIS participants receive funding in their NDIS plan, and that money is allocated across different support categories each designed to help meet your individual goals and needs.

There are three main categories:

Core Supports – daily needs like personal care, transport, and community access.

Capacity Building Supports – building independence, skill development, therapies, and employment assistance.

Capital Supports – big one-off purchases like assistive technology, home modifications, or supported accommodation.

You can manage your plan in three ways:

Self-managed – you take full control of the funding.

Plan-managed – a financial intermediary manages it for you.

NDIA-managed – the NDIA pays registered providers directly.

Knowing how your funding works helps you make confident choices, speak up for what you need, and make the most of every opportunity in your plan.
