Today is the last day of Down syndrome awareness month! What a joy and privilege it is to join with families in supporting and celebrating the abilities and achievements of our young people with Down syndrome ❤

October is AAC Awareness month!!

AAC is short for Augmentative and Alternative Communication and includes: gestures, signs and symbols (both paper based or on a tablet or computer). 🙋‍♀️🤷📒🖥

If someone uses AAC to support their communication, their AAC should always be available and in reach – it’s not something you just take to speech therapy sessions 🤩.

AAC is also not a last resort - research shows that AAC doesn’t hinder speech development and can actually support it 😍
