Anger is a normal human emotion that everyone feels from time to time; however, if it is always present, this is not healthy. Words and actions taken when angry can often be detrimental to both the sender and the receiver of the message. Both participants can leave the conversation "licking their wounds". Managing anger constructively is an essential life skill, and so is apologising, since we all make mistakes here and there. Anger is usually a mask for many other emotions, including fear, anxiety, inadequacy and feelings of low self-worth. It can be a defence mechanism. It is important that we can dig deeper into our anger and find out what it is really about and work from there. Counselling can help you to do this. Realistically, life is for most of us full of ups and downs, but it is truly inspiring to see people who have endured significant hardship being able to focus forward. It is easy to stay with hate, resentment and grief and a lot of hard work to move on in life and experience the love of those around us, fully. This is no easy task and often takes us the courage to ask for help. We need to grieve loss and to feel pain and acknowledge it before we can move forward with more confidence and peace.

Home is where you feel safe and a sense of belonging, and connection. Research shows that connection is as important for human survival as food, water and shelter. We need at least one person or animal that we feel that close connection to, whether that be a partner, friend, child or pet. To have that connection involves a degree of trust and healthy boundaries, allowing others to enter our world. Counselling can provide us with some tools to do this, and it can also challenge our negative beliefs.

Sometimes in our overwhelmed feelings of stress, anxiety, fear and a multitude of other feelings, we get swept away by rumination. We find it hard to focus on anything except the causes of these emotions.
