...unfortunately however the elves don’t seem to realise that the headaches that they have are not something that can be treated that way!

Headaches caused by stiffness and tension in the neck respond really well to osteopathy - those caused by hangovers, not so much!

According to our osteopathic principles, the best thing for hangover headaches is...........to not drink too heavily the night before. (But then, where’s the fun in that!)😆😜

As your body changes throughout pregnancy, you may experience aches, pains or restrictions of movement. These most commonly manifest as back, neck or hip pain but can produce pain anywhere in the body.

In order to reduce the likelihood or intensity of these types of pains a top tip is to try, as far as is possible, to avoid movements which will cause a lot of tension or torsion through the pelvis.

When bending over or getting up from sitting try to keep the weight distributed as evenly as possible between both feet. Try to avoid bending over whilst twisting to the side at the same time, and when lying down on your side place a pillow between your knees (which most pregnant women will naturally do anyway as a matter of comfort.)

Pregnant women shouldn’t avoid movement as movement is always good for us so keeping active is always advised, it’s just about trying to reduce the torsional movements through the pelvis which could lead to pain.

Osteopathy can help. Come in and see us to talk through some techniques that can help relieve your discomfort and allow you to better enjoy your pregnancy.

So I phoned my osteopath and asked if he could update my records as I’d decided to change my name to ‘Spinal Column’.

“No problem,” he said, “is it ok if I call you back?” 😂

An episode of acute pain felt in the lower back can feel scary at times.

It’s important to remember that more often than not, we haven’t caused any serious damage, even when the pain is excruciating.

If you think you can, try some easier movements in an effort to dampen that sensitivity and pain

If you are concerned, or if you feel like things aren’t improving, then coming to see a specialist to be carefully assessed is a good next step.

If you have any questions or concerns, we're here to help!
