(MS) is a neurological condition where the body’s own immune system mistakenly attacks & damages the fatty material called myelin around the nerves which results in a range of motor (movement) & non-motor symptoms.

Limited physical activity & exercise often leads to an increase in disability, general fitness, mobility, quality of life, changes in walking pattern, reduced stability, reduced balance and reduced muscular strength.

Although there is no cure for MS & impairments related to the MS disease process itself, exercise can assist with reducing impairments resulting from deconditioning. 🏋️‍♀️🚴‍♂️👩‍🦽🚶🏊‍♀️

No 2 people with MS will have exactly the same symptoms so it's best to work with an appropriate professional such as an Accredited Exercise Physiologist to work out a plan that addresses your needs & capabilities.

Our Exercise Physiologist felt really humbled and grateful for this gesture of appreciation from the Ipswich Men's Shed Inc. at Bundamba for his work with them in providing group exercise sessions to their members over the past few years.

Unfortunately he couldn't attend their 10 year anniversary celebration event but a few of their members who attend one of our services popped in to present him with this certificate, lovely made leather key chain and a few other goodies recently.

Thanks fellas! Steve's already claimed some wall space in the clinic for the certificate and we look forward to working with you in the future to do our part to create healthier, happier, more independent communities. 😉

Diets aren't a long-term solution for or maintaining good health. It's easy to be sucked into using diets because they often promise fast, effortless results (who wouldn't want that?), and give people a false sense of being in control.

Instead they give you less control by telling you what you can and can't eat which restricts your food choices and socializing opportunities at events with friends and family as well as placing unrealistic expectations on people.

Instead, let's celebrate international by taking a break from dieting and focusing on choosing healthier food choices, not feeling guilty about food we eat, eating a variety of wholesome foods and finding ways to increase the amount of movement in our day.

World Day for Safety and Health at Work provides an opportunity to reflect on how to prevent occupational related injuries, diseases and illnesses.

One cost effective way to help prevent injuries and illnesses at work is by promoting physical activity in the work place.

The Australian Bureau of Statistics found that the most common types of injuries sustained in 2021-22 were:
- Sprains, strains or dislocations - 29%.
- Chronic joint or muscle conditions - 20%.

Being physically active also assists in improving and maintaining soft tissue (such as muscle, ligament, tendon), bone and joint health and reducing the risk of injury to these tissues.

The main payoffs for workplaces / organizations???
✅Less absenteeism due to injuries.
✅Less work related injuries.
✅Decreased workers compensation costs; &
✅Happier, healthier, more productive teams.

The main payoffs to employees???
✅Less off work due to injuries, aches and pains; and
✅Reduced psychological stress caused by being off work with a work related injury.

Inactivity also doubles the risk of heart disease, Type 2 Diabetes, and obesity and increases the risk of stroke, various cancers, depression & anxiety.

Congratulations to the participants of the Healthy Eating and Activity Lifestyle (HEAL) program who completed their session 1 # this week! 🎊🥳

In a day of firsts, this is the 1st time we've run the program as a men's only program to try and get more fellas proactive about improving and managing their health (and with great results!).

This program will support the participants to make long term, healthier lifestyle choices through increasing their awareness as well as providing tools / strategies for improving & maintaining , and .

The program is most suitable for participants ready to make healthier food choices and/or changes in their physical activity & exercise levels who are at risk of developing or currently have , , and/or are carrying a little more weight than is healthy.

After completing the exercise component, the group tackled the topic of Your Health, Your Choices which centers around the importance of getting the facts around making healthier lifestyle choices to better prevent & manage , & .

With all the input & engagement during the session we're excited to see how much value & benefit the group will be able to extract from the rest of the program over the next 7 weeks.

Before we forget in all the excitement of being able to offer this program, a big shout out to the Darling Downs and West Moreton PHN for funding this gold standard & much needed program for our community.

Any excuse to carbo-load we say. 😁Happy Carbonara day everyone! 🥳
FUN FACT!.... Traditional Carbonara has no cream in it. The creaminess comes from rendering the fat off the bacon (or pancetta for the Italians reading this and falling off their seats), a splash of pasta water, an egg and some lovely freshly grated parmesan. Healthier than cream too we recon.

Should you have this type of meal regularly? Absolutely not. But as we tell to our clients regularly... everything is good in moderation & recipe modification can help us enjoy variety AND eat a little more guilt free (especially when your physically active).
