Stride wishes to acknowledge the passing of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, with the State Funeral being held today at Westminster Abbey.
This is a significant moment in history and we are seeing a diversity of responses across the community.
Many Australians are clearly mourning the Queen’s death, feeling great affection and respect towards her.
Yet we must also acknowledge that for many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, this event elicits a different response borne from the impacts of colonialism and dispossession.
Stride encourages all Australians to be respectful and understanding. We also ask people to be mindful of the impact this event and the National Day of Mourning might have on peoples' mental health, be they mourning or otherwise.
