There’s something about self reliant remote overland travel that gets our blood pumping! The human drive to challenge ourselves, to discover something new, to explore the unknown. It’s about the journey and it’s what we see and learn about the world along the way that is important. Immersing ourselves in nature, experiencing new places, finding things that are different and interesting. The Madigan Line is the most remote track in the Simpson Desert with many fated expeditions from years past a reminder that being prepared in such remote areas really does pay off! The team from Hema Maps are experts in remote overland travel and know the value of being prepared. We’ve kitted their vehicles with essential equipment allowing them to stay safe and connected! They run an Iridium 9575 Extreme satellite phone which they use for voice, text and tracking via the GlobalSat Tracking Portal. ——————————————
In 2015 Hema Maps joined Pat Callinan's 4x4 Adventures on an epic desert adventure, retracing the route of Cecil Madigan who in 1939, led party of 9 men & 19 camels through the Simpson on a expedition never before attempted. 🐪 TRAVEL TUESDAY 🐫
#1 - Who’s driven this iconic track?
#2 - Did you know the stock route was established in the 1860’s to drive cattle down out of the Channel Country rather than the alternative route via Brisbane which was at least 1000km longer!! The Birdsville Track traverses 3 deserts (Strzelecki, Sturt Stoney & Tirari) and was used for decades with a total lack of surface water along the route. The drovers endured drought, sandstorms & obliterating heat for weeks on end resulting in many deaths of man & beast. Our early pioneers had amazing courage to venture into such isolated & baron territory which for a long time, remained the most isolated but important stock routes in Australia 💪🏽🙌🏼 —————————
