🚨 Shin Splints Slowing You Down?
That annoying ache in your lower legs after a run or training session? Yep, those could be shin splints.

Also known as medial tibial stress syndrome, shin splints are common, especially in runners, netballers, dancers, and anyone who’s recently increased their training. The good news? They’re treatable, and preventable, with the right approach 💡

Here’s what we focus on at Perform Physio + Pilates:
👣 Footwear + surface check – Your shoes and the ground you train on can make a huge difference.
🔄 Load management – We’ll guide you on how to adjust training to calm things down without losing progress.
🏋🏻‍♂️ Strength & control – Weak calves, hips or poor control through the foot and ankle can all contribute. We assess and build a tailored plan just for you.
📉 Running or movement technique – We look at how you move and make small tweaks that reduce stress on the shins.

Shin splints can progress to cause pain with daily activities, like walking, if ignored 😬 don’t push through the pain!

Let’s get on top of it early so you can keep doing what you love, pain-free.

Ankle and Calf Strength 💥

In this video Chris shows a double leg to single leg eccentric calf raise.

🎯 This is a great middle stage ankle rehab exercise and is a great way to load the calf and achilles.
🦵🏼Rise up on two feet, transfer your weight onto one foot while maintaining the same height, and slowly lower on one foot.
🦶🏼This is a great exercise to bridge the gap between double leg and single leg calf raises without overloading the area.

Have you spotted our new Smith Machine yet? 😍

Sam demonstrates how we can safely introduce popular strength exercises - perfect for building bone & muscle strength, confidence, and long-term capacity.

The Smith Machine's versatile setup helps us safely progress strength training for all ages and rehab stages, from controlled squats to targeted upper-body work.

NEW BLOG ALERT!
Did you know menopause can affect your muscles, joints, and bones — not just your hormones?
This growing body of knowledge is now being recognised under the term: "Musculoskeletal Syndrome of Menopause" (Wright et al., 2024), and it's more common than you might think.

⚡️Joint pain
⚡️Muscle weakness
⚡️Stiffness or slower recovery
⚡️Reduction in bone mineral density
⚡️Increased risk of injuries
These changes aren’t always due to just “getting older” — they can be linked to the natural drop in estrogen as women approach menopause.

🧠 Understanding the why behind these symptoms is key to managing them well.
✍🏼 We’ve broken it all down in our latest blog — from what’s happening in the body to what can actually help.
