Our consulting rooms are usually full, and our patient demand is strong. But with some planned changes in our clinical team over the coming months, we know we’ll have capacity for the right VR GP.

This isn’t a build-your-books role.

You’ll step into a consistent and growing patient base, with the flexibility to focus on the areas of medicine you enjoy most.

We’re a privately owned, predominantly private billing practice that values time, continuity of care, and doing medicine properly.

While some clinics were closing their doors, ours was opening a bottle of wine and attempting to recreate Autumn Stroll 🎨🍷

The brief? Follow the painting.
The reality? Let’s just say… clinical skills don’t always translate to artistic genius.

But that’s kind of the point.

At The Surgery at Jerra, we work hard, support each other, and genuinely enjoy the team we’ve built. Nights like this matter. They’re where culture lives, not just in policies or meetings, but in laughter, connection, and the occasional questionable masterpiece now hanging behind reception.

Winding down… 🍷

After a few big days at the Scale My Clinic Conference, TSAJ owners Kylie Yates and Dr David Yates took the opportunity at our final dinner to pause and reflect.

On the conversations.
The ideas.
And what it all means back at the practice.

Because building a great practice isn’t just about what happens during the day.

It’s about stepping back.
Thinking clearly.
And being intentional about what comes next.

As part of the 𝑺𝒄𝒂𝒍𝒆 𝑴𝒚 𝑪𝒍𝒊𝒏𝒊𝒄 𝑪𝒐𝒏𝒇𝒆𝒓𝒆𝒏𝒄𝒆 in Melbourne, practice owners took part in an Amazing Race through the CBD.

Fast-paced, a little chaotic, and a great reminder that strong teams don’t just happen — they’re built.

Clear communication, trust, adaptability, and knowing how to work together when things don’t go to plan.

The same things that make a great general practice.

(Also, for accuracy… Kylie Yates did beat Dr David Yates.
But we’re focusing on the teamwork lessons.)

Because building a great practice isn’t just about systems and structure.

It’s about people.
Connection.
And taking the time to step back, share ideas, and enjoy the moments in between.

A small fleet of general practice owners from across Australia took to the Yarra during the Scale My Clinic Conference in Melbourne.

TSAJ owners Dr David Yates and Kylie Yates joined others in stepping away from the day-to-day to spend time working on their practices… not just in them.

Between the conversations, problem-solving, and a slightly unconventional setting, the focus was simple:
how to build sustainable, supportive, well-run practices that allow GPs to do their best work.

Because great general practice doesn’t happen by accident.
It’s built intentionally.

And it’s something we’re always working on.

Last week 𝑻𝑺𝑨𝑱 𝒐𝒘𝒏𝒆𝒓𝒔 𝑫𝒓 𝑫𝒂𝒗𝒊𝒅 𝒀𝒂𝒕𝒆𝒔 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑲𝒚𝒍𝒊𝒆 𝒀𝒂𝒕𝒆𝒔 were in Melbourne at the 𝑺𝒄𝒂𝒍𝒆 𝑴𝒚 𝑪𝒍𝒊𝒏𝒊𝒄 conference, run by Dr Todd Cameron and Dr Sachin Patel.

Running a medical practice isn’t just a job. It’s a lifestyle. It takes hard work, risk, and constant learning to build something that truly supports both patients and the team behind the scenes.

The focus of Scale My Clinic is helping practice owners build businesses that match their clinical excellence, so practices don’t just survive, they thrive.

We came home with plenty of ideas about leadership, systems and culture. Because a well-run practice makes a huge difference to the people working in it, and the patients we care for every day.

When one of your GPs comes back from maternity leave and seamlessly steps back into training, supervision and team life, you know your culture is working.

This week we welcomed Dr Nicole Schmocker back to The Surgery at Jerra.

After time at home with her baby, Nicole has returned to continue her specialist GP training under the supervision of Dr Anita Dey. Supporting registrars through every stage of life, including becoming parents themselves, is not a policy here. It is just how we do things.

At TSAJ, training is structured, supported and genuinely collaborative. Supervisors are available. The wider GP team is invested. Life outside medicine is respected. Career progression continues.

General practice is not meant to be done alone. It is meant to be done in a team that backs you.

We are proud of the way we support our doctors through seasons of growth, both personal and professional.
