Big congratulations to Dr Liam Mulcahy from our Rehab and Aged Care team! 🎉

His new book, Beyond the White Coat: The Faces Behind Medical Eponyms, has just been released, diving into the real stories behind medicine’s most familiar names.

It’s not his first literary venture either — Dr Mulcahy has also written a children’s book that raised funds for the Perth Children's Hospital Foundation, and even a gripping adventure thriller! 👏👏

We are extremely proud of the JHC Stroke Team which has been recognised for delivering highest standards of stroke care by the Australian Stroke Coalition (ASC).

The ASC Quality Stroke Service Distinction Award recognises health services that have achieved the highest standards in stroke care, based on eight quality of care indicators.

Members of JHC’s Stroke Working Group were today presented with their certificate by JHC CEO Renaud Mazy. They also received another certificate on behalf of the JHC Stroke Registry Team, which collects and analyses the data for the quality of care indicators, for contributing 1000 cases to the ACS Registry since 2020. The ACS Registry is a national initiative aimed and monitoring and improving the quality of acute stroke care across Australia.

Congratulations team and thank you for your ongoing work to improve the outcomes for our stroke patients. 👏

ORIGINS – Australia’s largest longitudinal birth cohort study of its kind – welcomes substantial funding from the Stan Perron Charitable Foundation, which will enable researchers to address key priorities identified by ORIGINS participants and stakeholders. 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦

“Our recent Community Conversation highlighted the urgent need to address the rapid increase of poor mental health and anxiety in children and families, alongside behavioural issues and the impact and management of screen use at school and inside the home,” ORIGINS Co-Director Dr Jackie Davis said.

“This generous funding will allow ORIGINS to commence our Primary School Kids Checks which will have an additional focus on language, literacy, mental health, social media, screen use, and lifestyle behaviours, alongside introducing wearable devices to track children’s physical activity, sedentary behaviour and sleep.”

Managing all incoming medical consumables for the rapidly expanding Joondalup Health Campus is no small feat, which is why our Purchasing and Supply Department’s bulk store has been doubled in size.

Part of the $307.9 million expansion of JHC funded by the State and Australian Governments, the bulk store works are among a range of back-of-house upgrades which are essential to support the growing hospital.

The Purchasing and Supply team of 22 is enjoying their new space, which supports better stock flow, and is looking forward to taking delivery of a new electric forklift next month.

Joondalup Health Campus has celebrated the launch of our Research Strategic Plan, designed to guide the expansion of our active research program, at a collaborative event this week with other leading Western Australian based health researchers.

The event included a presentation on the next stage of the ORIGINS Project, a long-term study of 10,000 children born at our hospital, and their families, carried out in partnership with The Kids Research Institute Australia, which aims to prevent non-communicable diseases and discover how every child and family can reach their full potential.

Attendees also heard about health-related research projects underway at the North Metropolitan Health Service, Edith Cowan University and the University of Western Australia.

JHC conducts a number of clinical trials testing new care processes and medicines which means that our patients can experience innovative medical care closer to home. There are around 90 research projects underway. To learn more, visit our website: https://www.joondaluphealthcampus.com.au/About-Us/Research

Between November 2024 and July 2025, participants used Travel Smart alternatives to driving to work, which were documented in a log book.

For their commutes to work they collectively walked 5,000 kilometres, cycled or scootered 20,000 kilometres, travelled 66,000 kilometres by public transport or car pooled 29,000 kilometres, benefitting their health, the planet and their hip pockets. 🚶🚲🚍🚆🧑‍🤝‍🧑

Following the success of the initiative, TravelSmart will return to JHC later this year.

Well done, thank you and enjoy shopping up a storm!

Joondalup Health Campus recently tasked university students participating in the Joondalup Innovation Challenge with identifying solutions for patient and visitor wayfinding and sustainable clinical recycling.

Our wayfinding challenge was selected by four of the eleven teams, whose efforts resulted in winning two of the prizes.

Both teams, Team Inn8vators and Team Juice, built solutions around robotics and mobile apps. Teams comprise university students from various disciplines, including engineering, science, and business.

Calum McLeod, JHC Support Services Manager, was on hand to thank the students for contributing and wish them well with their studies.

R U OK? Day reminds us that conversations about mental health matter every day, not just once a year.

Checking in with a colleague, friend or family member and really listening can make all the difference. Sometimes, that simple conversation is the key to opening the door to the support someone needs most💬💛
