This World Sterilisation Day we celebrated our dedicated sterilising technicians and leaders who ensure the highest standards of patient safety in the work they do.

Busy working behind the scenes, they process every instrument through the sterilisation process with precision and uncompromising standards.

Excellence in healthcare takes commitment, consistency and personal accountability to deliver the best that we can each day. This is exactly what our Central Sterilisation Services Department team at JHC delivers for our patients and the community.

Thank you team!

JHC has acquired a da Vinci surgical robot enabling patients of Joondalup and surrounds to access minimally invasive surgery for conditions, such as prostate cancer, closer to home.

Using robotic arms which control tiny surgical instruments, the da Vinci enables surgeons to perform a range of delicate procedures via keyhole, rather than through larger incisions, and with enhanced precision than conventional keyhole surgery. It also supports access to otherwise difficult to reach areas and may reduce recovery time with smaller and less painful incisions resulting in smaller scars.

Initially used for robotic prostatectomy, the da Vinci is expected to be used for a range of other procedures including urological reconstruction, colorectal cancer surgeries, hysterectomies, and thoracic surgeries in suitable patients.

JHC was thrilled to welcome Alex Jenkins, Director of the WA Data Science Innovation Hub, Chair and Founder of the Curtin AI in Research Group, and Member of the WA State Government’s AI Advisory Board to facilitate an interactive workshop exploring how Artificial Intelligence can support clinical care and decision-making.

Clinical staff explored real clinical challenges suitable for AI solutions, identified opportunities for digital tools in everyday practice, ways AI can connect clinicians, researchers, and digital innovators, and how it can support the practical application of research findings at JHC.

Thanks to all those who joined us!

Joondalup Health Campus (JHC) CEO Renaud Mazy and our Director of Research Professor Desiree Silva were at today’s Telethon Giving Celebration, recognising this year’s incredible Telethon beneficiaries and the life-changing impact made possible by your generosity.

At JHC, kids will be benefit from an Airvo-3 High Flow Therapy System, while ORIGINS, a collaboration between JHC and The Kids Research Institute Australia, is funded to continue its work following 10,000 WA children from their time in the womb into early childhood, to understand how the early environment impacts the development of non-communicable diseases with the goal to develop targeted, more effective prevention and intervention strategies that support all families to flourish throughout life.

STARS for Kids - a sub-project run in collaboration with ORIGINS, JHC, The Kids Research Institute Australia and the University of New South Wales - has also been granted funding.
If you're a parent of a child aged 6 months to 3 years in Wanneroo, you may be eligible to take part.

Lifeblood is urgently calling for type O and A blood donors to donate this Easter as blood reserves come under significant pressure. .

More than 13,000 blood donations are needed between today and 10 April to ensure blood is available for trauma patients, emergencies and people undergoing ongoing treatment, including patients at JHC.

Public holidays traditionally reduce donor attendance, while demand can spike over Easter due to increased road accidents and ongoing cancer treatments.

To make a donation appointment, call 13 14 95 or book on lifeblood.com.au or the Lifeblood app.

Superheroes, ballerinas and astronauts at JHC!

Supertees have landed in the Telethon Children’s Ward and our Emergency Department to bring smiles to our young patients, including four-year-old Eliana who recently had a tonsillectomy.

The medical garments provide easy access for treatment but are disguised as fun costumes.
A big thank you to 7Telethon for funding the garments for the next three years.

We love to stay in touch with our patients and follow their journeys to improved health.
Every cardiac patient at JHC is offered free rehabilitation and education sessions to help with their recovery. ❤️

The seven-week course is delivered by a team of physiotherapists, dieticians, pharmacists, occupational therapists, and pastoral care workers.

Cardiac Rehabilitation Nurse Gaby Plimmer coordinates the program and is pictured here with patient Jim Bain, who suffered a cardiac arrest earlier this year.
