RESTARTING ELECTIVE SURGERIES:
We at WA Gynaescope are delighted to update our patients on the following:

As you know there has been restrictions on most elective surgeries during the COVID-19 Pandemic as per the Federal Government.

In recent days this decision has been slowly reversed to allow more cases.

As we move towards increasing the surgical cases especially at Joondalup Health Campus, we have been allocated more theatre time. At this stage the allocation is limited and we are scheduling patients based on the urgency of their situation.

We will be contacting our previously scheduled patients in the near future with a new surgical date. Please be patient with during this phase.

Please contact us again if you have any concerns.

We are accepting NEW REFERRALS at this time.

We will keep you updated and keep checking our website for more news.

COVID-19 Update:

As you know the situation regarding COVID-19 is changing continually in WA. We take the well being of our patients seriously and we will be implementing some changes in the practice based on the advice we receive.

WE CONTINUE TO OFFER FACE-TO-FACE APPOINTMENTS AS IS INDICATED. PLEASE NOTIFY US OF YOUR PREFERENCE

Expanding our Telehealth Services: (NEW)
We will continue accepting referrals from your GP. We will then give you the option of having your consultation from home via Skype or Zoom. In this way we can then assess your situation and then decide how to proceed. This might include a face to face consultation and or biopsies as may be needed.

The current advice for COMING TO YOUR CONSULTATION is:

Do NOT come for your consultation if you have any symptoms of FEVER, SORE THROAT, SHORTNESS OF BREATH, COUGHING or RUNNY NOSE.

Do NOT come to our office if you have returned from overseas in the last 14 days OR if you have been identified as a close contact with a confirmed case of COVID-19. Please contact our staff to rearrange your appointment.

Changing to No-Gap Providers: (NEW)
As we expect the economic impact of the current situation to be significant we have decided to not charge gap-fees for surgeries for the time being.

Less urgent surgeries on hold: (NEW)
We have been advised that our surgical lists are on hold at the moment as hospitals get ready to manage the expected patient load from COVID-19. We still have the ability to deal with URGENT CASES though. We may offer urgent surgeries from neighboring hospitals as theater lists become available.

We will be updating this page as the situation unfolds.

Keep safe and thank you for your attention.

Drs. Gian Urbani and Sunny Baruah and staff.

DID YOU KNOW?

Risk of occult malignancy at hysterectomy (April 2018)

Women planning hysterectomy for benign disease are counseled about the small risk of detecting cancer at the time of surgery. In the largest study to date of women undergoing hysterectomy without known or suspected cancer at the beginning of surgery, 1.4 percent had uterine cancer, 0.60 percent had cervical cancer, and 0.19 percent had ovarian cancer [27]. Women age 55 and older had a higher risk of malignancy than women ages 45 to 54 years. These data are useful in counseling patients before hysterectomy. (www.uptodate.com)

Did you know?
Difficulty with in*******se after having a baby can often be explained by the effects of breastfeeding on suppressing ovarian funcion. During lactation the brain produces certain hormones that "shut down" the ovaries temporarily. When weaning starts the ovaries resume their function and the woman starts having periods again.
During lactation however there is less oestrogen supplied to the vaginal walls and this can lead to dryness and difficult in*******se. These effects can sometimes be reversed by using vaginal oestrogen.
Feel free to discuss this problem with your GP or us here at WAGynaescope to look at some treatments appropriate for your specific situation. GU

Ovarian Reserve Test:
If you above 35yrs of age and you have been trying to get pregnant for 6 months or more, it may be appropriate to have a formal check-up through your doctor or local fertility clinic. At WA GynaeScope we will likely include a test of your "egg reserve" in the form of AMH (Anti-Mullerian Hormone) to be part of your evaluation. This may then inform further decisions on your journey to conceive. GU
