Studies have shown that massage can be used to successfully treat a variety of disorders, including:

• anxiety
• arthritis
• back or neck pain
• soft tissue injuries
• chronic pain
• constipation
• depression
• headache
• high blood pressure
• insomnia

Benefits of massage:

One of the immediate benefits of massage is a feeling of deep relaxation and calm. This happens because the massage technique releases endorphins that produce feelings of wellbeing. This release of endorphins lowers levels of stress hormones, such as adrenalin, cortisol and norepinephrine. Studies indicate that high levels of stress hormones impair the immune system. Some of the physical benefits of massage include:

• reduced muscle tension
• improved circulation
• stimulation of the lymphatic system
• reduction of stress hormones
• increased joint mobility and flexibility
• improved skin tone
• speedier healing of soft tissue injuries
• heightened mental alertness
• reduced anxiety and depression

Different types of massage offered:

Therapeutic – also known as ‘Swedish’ massage. This technique is designed to promote relaxation and improve blood circulation. Sports – is a blend of techniques that aim to enhance performance (pre-event) and help overworked muscles to recover quickly (post-event). Lateral – suitable for people who have trouble lying face down or face up and is suitable for pregnant women. Chair – this technique is proven to heighten mental alertness and reduce stress
Remedial – (Coming soon) encourages healing of injured soft tissue, such as muscles, tendons and ligaments. Trigger Point – specifically designed to alleviate the source of the pain through isolated pressure and release. Deep Tissue – similar to Swedish massage but the deeper pressure releases chronic muscle tension. Postural Analysis – your posture provides a lot of information regarding the natural state of your tissues. Using postural analysis, it is possible to determine which areas of your body are under strain and which muscle groups are causing it.

Why Massage

Massage is one of the oldest healing traditions. It is proven to have therapeutic properties and is used it to treat a variety of conditions. I got into massage therapy after years of sitting behind a desk and then much later, doing a lot of running and triathlon. I ended up with overuse injuries and arthritis and have had to rest and recover and change the way I work out. I get a massage every two weeks as part of my training and recovery plan.

Dry Needling– form of drug free therapy that places fine acupuncture needles into tight and contracted muscles (trigger points) to restore their proper function. It relaxes the muscle, thereby relieving pain. It has been proved to stimulate healing of your nerves, muscle and connective tissue. Functional Release Cupping – makes measurable change, fast, with little to no effort. This unique method of treatment incorporates vacuum cupping therapy and functional movement patterns to make dramatic changes in sporting, occupational and other functional movements. Rock Blades – most often used to relieve muscle and joint pain. Conditions of the muscles and bones are known as musculoskeletal disorders. Some examples include back pain, tendon strain, and carpal tunnel syndrome. Practitioners claim that gua sha can also benefit the immune system and reduce inflammation.
