Little nervous systems borrow from ours 💚

When you slow your voice, soften your body, and stay steady… their body starts to follow.

A little update 💛

Thank you so much for your patience with sessions, emails and socials while I navigate life one-handed at the moment (turns out hands are quite important 🫠). It’s been a slower pace than usual, and I’m so grateful for the kindness, flexibility, and understanding.

I’ll be back in the playroom later next week and can’t wait to see my little clients again 🤍

Play Therapy Week 2026 💛

At Play Out Loud, parent involvement is an intentional part of the play therapy process.

Regular parent sessions support shared understanding, skill-building, and reflection on progress, aligning with evidence that shows stronger and more sustained outcomes when caregivers are involved 👏🏻

Parents matter.

Play Therapy Week 2026 💛

The numbers do the talking. And for those of you who don’t speak “stats” this means that the average child who received play therapy did better than about 79% of the children who didn’t.

An effect size of 0.80 means that play therapy leads to real, meaningful change for our kids ❤️

Play Therapy Week 2026 🧠🧸

Let’s BUST a few myths.

Because when play therapy is misunderstood, children miss out.

Back to school can bring big feelings - for children and parents!

Transitions ask a lot of little nervous systems (and the adults supporting them).

This bingo isn’t a checklist to complete or another thing to get right.

It’s a menu of gentle, practical supports you can draw from across the first few weeks back.

When we lower expectations, support regulation, and lead with connection, children are far better able to settle and cope in their own time - sending lots of love to all the little people going back to school (and their big people too 🫶🏻)

Play Therapy Week 2026 💛

This week is about visibility for children’s mental health.

It’s about reminding adults that play is not “just play.”

It’s about naming play therapy as skilled, intentional, and evidence-based.

And it’s about children deserving to heal, grow, and be understood in ways that are natural to them.

In honour of Play Therapy Week, I’ll be sharing a little more about play therapy, some behind-the-scenes moments from the playroom, helpful play therapy skills that can be used at home too, and having a bit of fun debunking some common myths about play therapy along the way. Stay tuned!
