WHY CHECKING YOUR HORMONE LEVELS ARE UNRELIABLE DURING PERIMENOPAUSE?

During Perimenopause, Estrogen, progesterone and testosterone are fluctuating constantly, the decline is not a steady, straight line and checking your blood hormone levels do not provide reliable information to guide management.

It is changes in your periods and emerging, bothersome symptoms that should guide your management.

If you are experiencing symptoms of perimenopause, talk to your menopause GP to seek appropriate advice and guidance.

MARCH IS ENDOMETRIOSIS AWARENESS MONTH
Endometriosis happens when tissue similar to the lining inside the uterus (womb) grows outside the uterus.
1 in 7 women aged 44 to 49 years are diagnosed with Endometriosis in Australia as per the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare data.
Endometriosis causes debilitating symptoms – painful periods, heavy periods, chronic pelvic pain and can be associated with migraine, chronic pain syndromes, irritable bowel disease and anxiety related conditions.
Early identification and management reduces suffering.
Management should focus on reducing growth of endometriosis, reduce pain and complications along with improving quality of life.
Pelvic physiotherapists can help with management of symptoms.
During Perimenopause, endometriosis can flare up and can make management challenging.
If you are affected by such symptoms or someone you know is suffering, seek medical advice from your Women’s health doctor for evidence based management options.
Let us advocate for early detection and management for endometriosis to reduce complications and improve quality of life.

Menopause in Japanese is called kōnenki (更年期), often translated as "renewal years" or "turn of life," signalling a shift.

This phase is often viewed positively as a "second spring" (daini no haru), allowing for personal growth.

A powerful reminder that this stage of life marks the beginning of a new chapter of strength, wisdom, and possibility.

So if menopause means living 30 to 40 years in a hormone-deficient state, it's worth asking — do we really have to go through this without support?
When medically assessed and individually prescribed, body-identical hormone therapy can help restore balance. It may improve sleep and mood, support bone and muscle health, improve metabolic health, and help women feel well enough to fully engage in life and relationships.
Menopause care has evolved. You don't have to approach it the old way.
Be hormone aware. Learn your options. Speak with your doctor or a menopause-focused GP to understand what treatments may be suitable for you.
Because you deserve to feel your best - in midlife and beyond.

I have been referring patients to Nicole for years now and her care and expertise for women’s pelvic floor health through all the reproductive stages and menopause is exceptional. In this short video she explains the vital role of pelvic physiotherapy and a coincidence that my post today was about Genitourinary syndrome of menopause. Thank you Nicole !
