Building strength isn’t something that just happens, it’s something that’s earned with consistency and progression. 💫
Reformer Pilates is a way in which we can build long lasting strength through control, awareness, alignment and the magic of resistance. 💪🏻
Below are a few ways that we can build strength in our Reformer classes:
🪴 Spring Resistance - You control your springs and the resistance. So if you want to challenge your muscles to feel that Pilates burn 🔥, you can choose to load up heavy or depending on the exercise, work on light to no springs to work your body that little bit harder.
🪴 Progressive Overload - Strength training is about slow, progressive movement and Reformer is no different. By adding more resistance, more repetitions and various levels of complexity to the movement, we keep things interesting and make sure you’re always progressing and feeling stronger.
🪴 Time Under Tension - You may hear this term used a bit in class but what does it actually mean. In Reformer, fast isn’t always better. The magic happens when we slow down and focus on form with control. Being precise and intentional with each repetition means you’ll activate more muscle fibres, target some of the smaller stabilising muscle groups and build functional strength over time.
🪴Hand Weights - By adding small hand weights to some exercises, we can boost intensity of the exercise, build endurance and increase the overall strength of your muscles.
So next time you’re in the studio, think about slowing things down a little, choose to challenge the body by adding a little more and moving with intention and precision. With consistency in your practice, you’ll notice better posture, stronger movement patterns, and a body that feels more aligned, stable and ready for anything. 🙌🏻
