Our archive going to good use promoting Sports Sedans 😁, with the M.R. Automotive Racing Holden Monaro blazing away under the bridge at Morgan Park Raceway.

The car is owned by Warren Smith and driven by fellow member Ashley Jarvis Racing, though back in this era the pilot was Colin Smith.

The big rig is currently being rebuilt from a full body off and strip down, it'll be back on track in the Australian Sports Sedan Series later this year.

Meanwhile the Gooley Evo was always a good demonstration of the possibilities for Floor Pan construction cars, which unlike the spaceframes that must be 2WD could remain in factory layout with all four turning. If you want more info on the particulars for AWD Floor Pan Sports Sedans drop our Queensland Sports Sedan Racing account a DM and they'll be right on it for you.

Grunt or Grip? We're Queensland's home of variety, and part of the challenge is the mix of regulars plus the endless roster of part timers and visitors making each outing a new driver-vs-driver experience, throw in being an open air sport exposed to the elements and the engineering aspects of going as fast as possible without failing to finish, and finishing high in the points at the end of each year isn't a walk in the park.

So if you were going to build a championship winner, which way would you and your budget go, grunt or grip?

Here we have a Monaro body on a spaceframe chassis powered by Chev. The spaceframe cars are limited to 2WD, and this one runs a live rear axle to support the power.

Then there's a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo running all wheel drive. To turn all 4 with engine power means the build is based around the OEM chassis ~ and we've prepared some AWD Sports Sedan specifics ready to email anyone looking for more details for the max grip method.

Don't forget we have a long list of auto-invite categories as well for the Queensland Sports Sedans and Invited Cars Championship.

The next round for this year is back at Morgan Park Raceway on May 22-24, while we're already working on plans for an even bigger 2027 season. If you want details on either, just reach out!

Want an easy way into circuit racing? Formula Vee are looking for you. Mass-produced VW Beetle mechanicals in a light, strong and easy to repair spaceframe chassis, with limited fibreglass and aluminium panels for covering.

Easy to store, easy to tow, easy to work on, with a lot of friendly support from fellow competitors at the track. All-weather control tyre means no carrying wets and drys.

What's seen here are 1200cc cars from the 80's which you can still race today. There's now the 1600cc engine option as well, and with that comes the option to cut the shock towers off the factory front suspension frame and convert to slippery through the air inboard dampers with pushrod actuation like Formula Ford and other contemporary open wheelers.

While we'd love to have some Formula Vee members in our club, first contact with the most technical knowledge would be Formula Vee Queensland

We'll also be giving the category a little extra support through our QRDA Sports & Racing page.

Like the QRDA with our Sports Sedans and our open wheel wings and slicks Racing Cars, the Formula Vee Queensland club are a core category for Motorsport Australia Queensland Circuit Racing State Championship.

Minimum driver age for Formula Vee is the same as Series X3 Excels, being 14 years old.

Have you followed QRDA Sports & Racing yet? Much like Queensland Sports Sedan Racing the QRDA Sports & Racing page is our more focused home for not just promoting the many successes of our members but to help grow the Motorsport Australia Queensland categories overall.

In the Sports & Racing arena there's also Formula Vee Queensland, QLD Sportscar Championship and Production Sports Car Racing Association of Queensland to follow.

QRDA this year is the only club championship for Formula Ford 1600 cars to support all rounds of QCRSC, while we are also the primary club for Racing Cars (open wheel wings and slicks cars) which race neck and neck with the prototype sports cars.

We'll be providing a little extra content to help all the relevant categories and clubs, and we'll stop in and check out our QRDA members as well. If you're looking to get into motorsport, there's plenty of options to be found in the Sports & Racing car classes.

You don't need a Porshe, Ferrari or Lambo to have fun in ProdSports. Take things as seriously or as relaxed as you like in some of the most affordable racing cars at State Racing events, there's room for everyone.

Production Sports Car Racing Association of Queensland

Racing is on again today and tomorrow at Morgan Park Raceway. It's not part of the QRDA Drivers Championship, but there are a number of our drivers out there and in action.

George Kulig is going to be lighting up the track with one of the most gorgeous inline six cylinder soundtracks you'll hear as he paddle shifts through the gears.

John Davidson is back on track in the silver VE V8 after some mechanical setbacks at our Round 1 were offset by successfully cracking the tap in the search for more speed, he gets to put it to good use now.

RX7 equipped Geoff Kingston has been doing some travelling which included some laps in a Radical prototype sports car in New Zealand, he's back and ready for his first race meeting for the year.

Geoff Gillespie wheels out a now well travelled Race Products Ford Es**rt, he was speedy just a few weeks ago when we were at Morgan Park and he's enjoying getting his head around car upgrades this year.

Good luck to the crew and to all competitors, fingers crossed for some straight cars, fast laps and lots of smiles.

The Clements brothers had a challenging Round 2 at Morgan Park, despite preparing for a big year. The sport can be cruel sometimes, with tremendous highs there are occasional lows to endure, but the boys were all class and pressed on with positivity.

Ashton had the worst of it, scratching from the event all together.

Kyler and the crew were busy working on the remaining number 65 trying to get the most out of it. Issues were figured out, but not the type that could be done immediately during race weekend.

Expect both to rebound at Round 3, we'll stop in and catch up no doubt.

If you can't make the next event at Morgan Park towards the end of May, pencil in the Saturday Showdown at Queensland Raceway, which will be Round 4 of the Queensland Circuit Racing State Championship.

August 1st will see a one-day race meeting on the Saturday, with an all-day practice on Friday 31st of July.

If you have a suitable race car, there's also Speed Events on the Sunday for the super keen.

SuperMinis and Production Cars won't be at this round, but for anyone with those cars and looking for a day of racing they'll be welcome on the Sports Sedans and Invited Cars grid.

We're expecting a big turnout of Series X3 Excels for this event as well...

Cars for sale | We've recently stumbled across a host of Sports Sedans for sale that aren't advertised. If you want to get involved in local Sports Sedans next year, or earlier, reach out to our Queensland Sports Sedan Racing page for more information.

Share this one with your friends, relatives, co-workers, your mechanics, doctors and dentists, your exhaust shop and your local vet, wherever there's a closet car racer just waiting to break out let's help them go racing!

Help us grow, our next generation of Sports Sedans racer won't find us by accident and your help with that is valued, we're not and never will be the next Supercars Championship, what gets done here gets done together at community level.

Floor Pan cars or Spaceframe Silhouettes, V8s, rotaries, turbo 4s and 6s, something simple like an Improved Production Car, something midrange from the entry-level Sports Sedans, or a full-blown to the edge of the rules Sports Sedan build, we want to showcase all of them and give people a family friendly but competitive place to race their creations each year.

Found someone who wants to get involved but doesn't know how? Point them here, Queensland Sports Sedan Racing, and let them know they can reach out to us any time.

We're a club for racing drivers, but we're also Queensland's Sports Sedans club, the state's representative to the national Sports Sedan council and the contact point for Motorsport Australia when it comes to Queensland Sports Sedan Racing.

We would love to hear from you if you are interested in entry-level Sports Sedans, or if there's any other category in Motorsport Australia's State Championship you need information on we can help you out there as well.

We're working on plans for entry-level Sports Sedans racing in 2027 and beyond, but for today we flashback to the mid to late 90's and a period where Sports Sedans were resurgent in Queensland.

Driven initially by Ian Woodward a club series was developed for Under 2-Litre Sports Sedans. It attracted a long list of drivers and successfully pulled older Sports Sedans out of the sheds and back onto Lakeside's tarmac. It also spurred on the build of several new vehicles. Almost always these cars were part of the full Sports Sedans grid and not a breakaway, but this particular photo was from the Under 2-Litre Nationals where they did get their own show along with visitors from NSW and Victoria.

David Waldon on the left was equipped with a former Group C Gemini powered by a Nissan SR20, and next to him is Danny Meneguzzo in the modified 'spare' spaceframe from Simon Harrex's Commodore Sports Sedan days draped in an E30 BMW silhouette and fitted with a mid-mounted Nissan SR20 engine.

The other two in the lineup were Toyota-powered and built new for the series. Bob Grant came to the grid in his yellow Ford Es**rt spaceframe with a 3S-GE 2-Litre, a step up from his previous floor pan Es**rt with Pinto engine, while 4th spot is a young Trent Young from Northern Rivers in a Toyota Levin spaceframe powered by a hybrid merger of a 1.8 Litre engine block with a 20 valve 4A-GE cylinder head. Meneguzzo and Young had both also stepped up from more basic cars, the former having sold his tin bodied Es**rt to Grant in prior years, and the later having started in a Mk 1 Es**rt.

Over only a few seasons many of the 2-Litre front runners moved into outright contender Sports Sedans, while new drivers came into the sport via the U2L cars, seeing 7-10 cars of each turning up at various rounds and together producing solid grids. If you're interested in Sports Sedans racing but the big budget cars are out of reach, get in touch with us about plans for entry-level Sports Sedans and see if it will be a good fit for you.

Seth was back for Round 2 at Morgan Park recently, but was aboard a different HQ Holden. This one freshly wrapped over about two thirds of the car and sporting the Number 1 on the door.

He was locked in an intense battle for the lead of the final race when we got to look in on him, entertaining HQ racing once again.
