🍼Baby Dolls🍼

Our Participants love playing with dolls, especially baby dolls! To help cool off on a hot day we decided to have a bath day for the babies! Participants loved taking care of the baby dolls and giving them a bath! This kind of role playing activity is great because it allows our participants to explore their knowledge of the world and what they see, whether that's at home with younger siblings or what they see on tv and movies!

🐢Turtle Craft🐢

Miss Nicky came up with the best crafting idea! Making turtles with gorgeous button shells, hand picked by our participants! Making crafts is so fun but its also making use of and improving so many of our skills:
Fine Motor Skills - picking and placing buttons, using our hand-eye coordination
Creativity - deciding which buttons to use and where we want to put them
Colour Sorting & Recognition - deciding what colours we want to use and choosing them out of a mix
Following Instructions - doing the craft step by step, not rushing ahead

🌱Making and Eating “Dirt” Cups🌱

A sweet treat for our sweet participants! Together we made "dirt cups" with crushed biscuits, creamy chocolate custard, and squirmy gummy worms! From start to finish we each made our own cups and ate the delicious treats after, utilising so many of the skills we continuously are working on!
👌Fine Motor Skills - crushing biscuits, spooning in ingredients, and of course, eating!!
🍮Following Instructions - listening carefully and following along step by step
🪱Learning about the Environment - learning about the habitat of worms

👫Swinging with Friends👫

Swinging together is such a great bonding experience! Our participants love swinging and when we do it with friends its even better!
😌Regulating - the motion and repetition of swinging can be very regulating (and also fun!)
💬Social Skills - communicating with each other about things like wanting to go higher or slow down or stop completely

🌊Water Play🌊

With the rising temperature as we head towards summer we thought a little water play time was in order! Our participants LOVE when we bring out the water toys! This time we had a truck wash station and a fishing station! Water play is a great sensory activity and perfect for cooling down in the warm weather! Engaging in water play our participants not only have fun, but they also build their skills like:
👥Social Skills - cooperating and sharing with each other, learning to take turns
💬Language Skills - communicating with each other while playing ..all the while making new friendships!

⛳Obstacle Course⛳

During the last intensive program we set up a fun obstacle course for our participants! With stepping stones, climbing frames and other obstacles to pass through, our participants had to use so many of their skills to get through, like:
🤸‍♀️Gross Motor Skills - using all of our body to move through the course
⚖️Balance - using and strengthening core muscles
🫳Hand-Eye Coordination - using different parts of our body in unison
💭Thinking Ahead - looking at where we need to go and what we need to do to get there

🌱Sensory Dirt Play🌱

Our participants love getting a bit messy and playing with our hands! So we made a fun sensory "dirt" activity! Made from flour, cocoa powder, and vegetable oil this "dirt" is taste-safe and smells oh so delicious!
This activity is not only fun, it also helps build:
🖐️Fine motor skills - picking up and manipulating the dirt with our hands
🤍Calming - focusing on the present moment and what is in front of us
💭Curiosity - exploring the world through hands-on interaction

⛺ Calming Tent ⛺

Recently we set up a breezy little calming tent for our participants to chill out in and take some time to themselves! A lovely spot in the shade, with comfy chairs and books to read!
This provides a good place for our participants to:
😌 Self regulate - when they're feeling overwhelmed we help them to understand when they need a break and this is the perfect space!
📖 Entertain themselves - being able to occupy ourselves is a valuable skill to have, we help this along by providing activity stations the participants can use on their own.

🎮Video Gaming🎮

Sometimes here at Peppermint Place we like to have a bit of a gaming session! We love to see our Participants coming together to play games and have a bit of healthy competition. Video games are great at using and improving some of our skills! Like:
👋Fine Motor Skills - using our hands and fingers to press buttons and move joysticks
👀Hand-eye Coordination - timing our hand and finger movements to what's happening on screen
🏎️Team Building - playing with others and taking turns

🧩✨ Puzzle Time with Miss Nicky! ✨🧩

Our participants always love sitting down for puzzles with Miss Nicky. 💜 Puzzle time is not only fun, it also helps build:
🧠 Problem-solving skills – figuring out where each piece fits
👀 Visual recognition – noticing shapes, colours, and patterns
🖐️ Fine motor skills – picking up and placing pieces carefully
💬 Communication – chatting and working together with friends
🌈 Confidence – celebrating each little success as the picture comes together

🧪🌈 Fizzing Colour Fun! 🌈🧪

Our participants had an amazing time with a colourful science-inspired activity! Cups were filled with water and food colouring, and using droppers, the kids carefully added the colours onto trays of bicarbonate soda. The result? Magical fizzing, bubbling rainbows that everyone loved watching! ✨

This sensory activity was not only exciting but also supported lots of important skills:
🖐️ Fine motor skills – squeezing droppers and carefully placing colour
🎨 Creativity – experimenting with colour mixes and patterns
🧠 Cause & effect learning – seeing how ingredients react together
💬 Communication – sharing their discoveries with others
🌈 Joy & wonder – experiencing science through play

At Peppermint Place, we love mixing fun, creativity, and learning — and this fizzing rainbow activity ticked all the boxes! 💜
