Happy International Midwives day to all my midwifery sisters and brothers - those who wait patiently in the hours of the day when no one should be awake to watch women transform into the mothers they are to become!

And an acknowledgement here of my family - without their support I could not offer the services that I do. What they experience is me being gone on weekends, missing sports games, last minute changes in plans, mum being too busy to be able to slow down and sometimes being gone for days at a time.

I hope that it is evident that midwifery is a calling and that we are all working for women’s empowerment and autonomy in birth!

We are locking in regular skills based training days in Sydney for private midwives and hospital midwives alike. (Students also welcome!)

This is particularly great for those who have attended an advanced breech course and want to make sure they maintain their skills.

We got there

After spending quite a bit of time on my to do list and feeling tired at night and putting it off till “tomorrow” I got my abstract submission in!

I have been loving conducting the interviews for my study so here is to 🤞 getting to present my research in some capacity at the ICM conference next year 🥳

Use of partograms no longer recommended

FIGO has endorsed the World Health Organization (WHO) labour care guide (LCG) as the preferred global standard for monitoring labour, calling for healthcare providers worldwide to adopt it to improve maternal and newborn outcomes.

"The WHO labour care guide (LCG) is a transformative tool designed to enhance maternal and fetal outcomes by integrating evidence-based, respectful care during childbirth. FIGO supports its implementation as it addresses limitations of the traditional partograph, emphasises women-centered care, and promotes shared decision-making. You will be asked to attend an online or telephone confidential interview.
