Meet Physio Amna!

“Hi, I’m Amna, a Physiotherapist with a Master’s in Transitional Doctor of Physical Therapy and over eight years of experience working across Saudi Arabia and Pakistan.

I’ve worked in hospitals, outpatient clinics, and home-based care, supporting people with a wide range of conditions including musculoskeletal injuries, neurological cases, pediatrics, and geriatrics. I’m passionate about helping people move better, feel stronger, and get back to doing what they love.

My approach is simple — I take the time to listen, understand your goals, and create a personalised treatment plan using hands-on therapy and exercise-based rehab to support your recovery.

I’m also experienced in fitness and rehabilitation through my work as a Personal Trainer, which helps me guide patients through safe and effective recovery and strengthening.

I’m a kind and supportive person who enjoys working closely with both my team and the community. I truly believe in treating the whole person and supporting you every step of the way on your journey.”

We are so excited that Amna will be joining us and taking bookings from May 2026. We know our amazing clientele will make her feel warm and welcome.

Book your appointment now at www.karrathaphysiotherapy.com.au

Thanks in advance,
Physio Georgie

World Parkinson’s Day: Movement, Understanding, and Support That Makes a Difference

On World Parkinson’s Day, we join the international effort to raise awareness, challenge stigma, and highlight the importance of early assessment and ongoing movement‑based therapy.

Parkinson’s is a progressive neurological condition — but with the right support, people can continue to move well, live well, and stay connected to the activities that matter most.

Every person’s journey is unique. Symptoms can affect movement, balance, speech, energy, mood, and daily routines in different ways. That’s why physiotherapy and occupational therapy play such a vital role across all stages of Parkinson’s.

Early assessment and ongoing check‑ins with physio and OT ensure you’re supported at every stage.

Movement matters. Understanding matters. Support matters.

World Health Day

This World Health Day, we’re celebrating the everyday wins that keep our bodies moving, our minds steady, and our lives meaningful. Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy aren’t just for injuries — they’re about building strength, confidence, and independence at every age and stage.

At our core, we believe health is created through the small, consistent choices we make. So today, we’re sharing a few evidence‑based tips our physios and OTs use every day to support healthier living:

💡 Health Tips for a Stronger, Happier You
- Move often, not perfectly. Aim for regular movement breaks throughout your day — even 2–3 minutes of stretching or walking can reduce stiffness, boost circulation, and improve focus.
- Prioritise posture variety, not “perfect posture.” Your body loves change. Switch positions regularly, adjust your workspace, and give your muscles a chance to share the load.
- Build strength you can use. Functional strength training — lifting, pushing, pulling, squatting — supports joints, prevents injury, and keeps you doing the things you love.
- Protect your energy. OTs call this pacing: balancing activity and rest so you can get through your day without burning out.
- Support your nervous system. Slow breathing, grounding exercises, and gentle movement help regulate stress and improve overall wellbeing.
- Make your environment work for you. Small changes at home or work — better lighting, supportive seating, or adaptive tools — can make daily tasks easier and safer.

Today, we honour the physios and OTs who walk alongside individuals, families, and communities — helping people move with confidence, participate fully, and live life on their own terms. Health is a journey, and we’re proud to be part of yours.

Happy World Health Day. 🌱💙

Today, we raise awareness for individuals with Down syndrome and highlight the invaluable role of physiotherapy (PT) and occupational therapy (OT) in enhancing their quality of life. Here’s how these therapies can make a significant difference:

1. Physiotherapy (PT):
PT focuses on developing gross motor skills essential for movement and daily participation. Therapists help individuals with Down syndrome build strength, improve coordination, and maintain mobility through tailored exercise plans. This ensures they can engage safely and effectively in physical activities, promoting overall health and fitness.

2. Occupational Therapy (OT):
OT empowers individuals to achieve greater independence in daily tasks. Therapists assist with self-care, communication, and social skills, which are crucial for fostering autonomy at home and in the community. From managing daily routines to workplace readiness, OT plays a vital role in enhancing life skills.

3. Speech Therapy:
For adults with Down syndrome, speech therapy is essential for maintaining communication skills. This therapy focuses on improving interpersonal abilities, which supports social relationships and community engagement.

4. Collaborative Care:
PTs, OTs, and speech-language pathologists work together to provide comprehensive support tailored to individual needs. This multidisciplinary approach ensures a holistic therapy experience, addressing various aspects of development.

5. Support Workers:
In addition to professional therapists, support workers play a critical role in encouraging active participation in low-impact activities. They help integrate therapy recommendations into daily life, offering practical assistance that enhances therapy outcomes.

The Importance of Early Intervention:
Starting therapy early is key to fostering independence and improving the quality of life for individuals with Down syndrome. With the right support, they can thrive and overcome challenges.

Let’s continue to advocate for the importance of physiotherapy, occupational therapy, and collaborative care in empowering individuals with Down syndrome. Together, we can make a difference! 💪💙

🦷✨ World Oral Health Day: Connecting Oral Health to Overall Well-Being! ✨🦷

Did you know that poor oral health can lead to serious injuries and related illnesses affecting not just your mouth, but also your heart and brain? This World Oral Health Day, let’s dive into the connection between maintaining a healthy smile and safeguarding your overall health!

Key Links Between Oral Health and Systemic Illnesses:

1. Gum Disease: A common culprit in poor oral health, gum disease can cause inflammation and infection. Bacteria can enter the bloodstream, potentially leading to serious conditions like heart disease and stroke.

2. Heart Disease: Individuals with gum disease are nearly twice as likely to develop coronary artery disease. The bacteria from the mouth can contribute to plaque buildup in arteries, increasing the risk of heart attacks.

3. Stroke: Those with gum disease are about twice as likely to suffer from a stroke. Inflammation from dental issues can affect blood flow to the brain.

4. Alzheimer’s Disease: Emerging research suggests a link between gum disease and the development of Alzheimer’s, highlighting how inflammation and bacteria can damage neurons.

Why Early Intervention Matters:
Maintaining good oral hygiene is crucial for preventing these serious health issues. Regular brushing, flossing, and dental check-ups are essential, but early intervention is key in managing oral health. Physiotherapy and occupational therapy can also support recovery for those dealing with related injuries or illnesses.

Take Action Now:
This World Oral Health Day, let’s commit to better oral health practices! Share your favorite oral hygiene tips or tag a friend with an incredible smile! 😄🦷

Remember, a healthy mouth contributes to a healthy heart and brain!
